George Best on life support after health deteriorates
The health of the former Northern Ireland and Manchester United footballer George Best, who has been fighting an infection in hospital for the last three weeks, has "deteriorated dramatically", his ex-wife said last night.

Best, 59, had a life-saving liver transplant in 2002 following well-documented drinking problems but the infection is said not to be directly linked to alcohol.

He is being treated at the private Cromwell hospital in west London, where it is thought he is suffering from internal bleeding and is on life support.

3. Yes.I remember seeing him on Carson
SOrt of a "HEy look at this funny talking guy" type thing. Carson was really good with him and they talked about being a playboy athlete and such. Apparently for George America was a brand new playground that he got paid to play in.

4. Yes, I remember him with the Los Angeles Aztecs
Probably played for other NASL team(s) as well. Georgie Best was a sad story at the end of his career, boucing from team to team as I recall. My first trip to England with my family in the early '70s he was still playing with Manchester United and was a legend. Very sad. I hadn't heard anything about him in quite a while.

5. That's right, it was the Aztecs....
among other teams, may have played for the Earthquakes too. Indeed a sad story. My best to his family and all his fans.

2. George is a sad story...
I have been keeping up with the story with The Belfast Telegraph. He is a hero to so many people.

6. Update. Doctors 'pleased with Best's progress'
From BreakingNews.ie:
Manchester United legend George Best is starting to wake up and doctors are “very pleased with him”, his agent said today.

Phil Hughes said Best had started coming round and “gripped my hand”.

The former Northern Ireland international has been attached to a ventilator in an intensive care ward of the private Cromwell Hospital in London but will be fully woken up over the next seven or eight hours, Hughes said.
