As a Packer fan, I'm somewhat torn about this subject. On the one hand, he's been great for many many years. On the other hand, he sure is stinking it up this year even though there are a number of key injuries. For what it's worth, I think this is it for no. 4. He may announce his retirement on Tuesday or so and if he does, good luck to Brett Favre and his family. We Packer fans love ya. Greatest QB in Packer history.

1. He's still capable, but he made some really bad decisions this year |
|
I guess his feeling was that since the team had no offensive weapons (besides Donald Driver), he had to take chances he shouldn't have. I would sure hate to see him come back next year and do as poorly as he did this year. I think if the Packers front office can get him some serious support, he should come back. Otherwise, he should retire and not tarnish his image.

2. Canning Sherman sends Favre one hell of a message... |
|
They're ready to move past him and his era and start rebuilding.

3. That could be Favre's doing too |
|
I think at this point Favre could be in a position to get management to do whatever HE wants.
I think he should stay one more year. Even when they suck they are still fun to watch.

4. Thompson said he didn't talk to Favre...which is bogus |
|
Firstly, when your marquee player's saying publicly that he'll retire if Sherman is out, you'd better talk to that player before you can the coach, otherwise you're kissing said marquee player goodbye. That's kind of a slap in the face to the star who put your franchise where it is.
Secondly, for the reasons stated above....who would be so stupid to NOT talk to your marquee player?
I dunno, this was either brilliant, or bungled. Favre's reaction will tell the tale.
I think he should stay, if they pull off a good draft. He's still Favre.

5. Favre is likely gone anyway. |
|
He certainly looked like someone that was saying goodbye Sunday afternoon.
Thompson said he actually thought it would be inappropriate to discuss a coaching change with a player.

He's a football players football player. I think he has 2 or 3 good years left in him. The team sucked this year. He had to take a lot of chances. He's had high numbers of interceptions before.

7. It wasn't all Favre's fault. |
|
The Packers were very beat up this year.
