My son just left for the Rose Bowl! |
|
He's a Marine home on leave from Japan -- we haven't seen him in 16 months -- but a (wealthy) friend and his family offered him a ticket to the game and frequent flyer miles for the flight out there. I'll miss him, especially since he goes back to Japan next week but this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, especially for a Longhorn fan (his bedroom has been painted burnt orange since he was in the fourth grade!) He plans to go to UT when he gets out in 2007.
He's a good liberal, 21, who's trying to convert his fellow Marines, one at a time. ;)
Hook 'em, Horns!

I'm so sick of the USC lovefest... ESPN and USC either need to get a room or STFU. God, their fascination with them is nauseating.
Stick it to 'em Texas!

8. Mr. Longhorn and I got to go to the Rose Bowl last year and it was cold |
|
and raining when we flew into Burbank. Our first stop was Universal Studios because we had already bought tickets for a special Longhorn event there. We went to the Shrek II show because it was indoors and when we came out, it had stopped raining and the sun even came out! The weather for the Rose Parade and game was fantastic. The next day, we went to Santa Barbara and it started raining again. But we had a great time anyway. We drove back on the Pacific Coast Highway through Malibu and just a few weeks later, they had that terrible mud slide. :(
My son said his flight from Las Vegas was pretty rough. It was delayed a couple of hours into and out of Vegas because of the weather. But the forecast for tomorrow looks good and even better for Wednesday. He rented a car in Ontario and said it drizzled most of the way to Santa Monica. He loves the LA area. He was stationed at 29 Palms before he went to Japan and he hopes to go to Camp Pendleton when his deployment is up in August. At least he doesn't have to pay his own rent! ;)
