15. Vince has a better arm, a better read of the field, and runs like no one
I've ever seen. No one touched him! Part of that was his reading the field, part was his pump fakes, which make people back off, but even when he was running in the open field he looked like a ghost stepping through the defenders' grasps.

Reminded me of old clips of Gayle Sayers. But I've never seen a QB who could run like that. Until tonight I wanted him to come back next year to UT. Now I think he should go pro. He'd be the top draft pick--top three at worst--and a multi-millionaire, and he's really got nothing left to prove in college. He could win the Heismann, but why would he care now?

18. This may sound odd but the athlete he most reminds me of
is Lebron James. They both have amazing physical gifts and something special, an almost scary charisma far beyond their years. Coolness under pressure.

19. I can see that. Both have that indestructable look, too.
Both look like you could hit them all day and they wouldn't get injured. Both sort of glide, too.

16. He's from Connecticut, he bandwagons everybody.
The only connection Bush has to UT is that UT rejected his application for law school, and one of his daughters went here. She doesn't like him, either.

20. I agree with you. Carrol made the right call. They had been blowing
through UT with their running game all half, and Young had caught fire by the end of the game. So Carrol put the game in the hands of his strongest element (the O line) and tried to keep it from UT's strength (Vince). Right call, UT just beat him on it. And barely.

He'll get hammered for that decision, but he was right. His two titles and unbelievable winning streak should prove he makes good decisions.

23. his record is good, his late game decisions were not
I think he should have punted on that fourth down (his defense had been pretty solid as well, and his team hadn't fared well on short-yardage situations.

But that decision aside, calling time out during the last-minute desperate texas drive was a bad decision, as was calling time out before the two-point conversion.

But while I think those decisions were mistakes, Carroll is a great coach, no doubt about it.

22. I think they should have punted
and I thought that at the time, too ... they hadn't done very well on short yardage situations, and had already missed a fourth and short.

punt the ball and make the horns go at least 80 yards, or 90+ if you get a good punt.

26. Pass
I was thinking they should have passed the ball. I agree with you that they had done poorly on the other 4 and 1 play. So I think they should have passed the ball. I think they could have made up the first down that way.

21. Most nail-biting game I've ever seen.
Even worse than last year's Rose Bowl. This was just amazing. And I've changed my mind... there is a God, and his name is Vince Young. Amazing comeback by an amazing athlete at the head of an amazing team.

Hook 'Em!!!

24. Best game ever!
It was fun watching it at Ringers in downtown Austin and talking to our son who was at the game. Then we joined the crowd at the Drag for more cheers and stopped at Foleys for NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP T-shirts! :)

Hook 'em, Horns!!!!!

29. Vince is the man
Vince Young, my god...this guy is a superman on the field. last year he destroyed Michigan, and last night he carried Texas on his back and won the game. I'd wish USC gad won, but I'm not ashamed to say that seeing Young and UT win isn't bad either. Two high class programs any football fan can be proud--way to go Horns :bounce:

USC, you fought all game long and it took a superman effort to beta you guys. I know it hurts, but every Trojan player has NOTHING to be ashamed of. From what I've been reading, you guys are already prepared to reload and go for it again next year! Thank you, thank you, thank you for putting up such a strong fight and not rolling over like alot of other teams (pro and college) would have done without a second thought.

Edited on Thu Jan-05-06 05:23 PM by SpiralHawk
Fantastic game all around. Both teams were excellent.

Remembering the first half TD that Texas was wrongly awarded, when the player who lateraled the ball clearly had his knee down before the lateral.

Had the refs called that play correctly, the game might well have ended differently.

But those are the breaks.

All in all, the best college game I have seen in a long time. Both teams acquited themselves with honor and finese.
