Mike McCarthy from the 9ers.
Most bizarre thing is that they broke into a program with a "breaking news" report to tell us this (I live 45 minutes south of Green Bay and they are my "local" affiliates).
Looks like a nod to Favre since he is a former Favre QB coach.

We'll be the whipping boys of the NFC North for 30 years (again). Guess I'll have to break out the old tapes, DVD's, and settle into a world of alternate reality. Cripes, Tice would have been better than McCarthey!
P.S. Is it true that San Fran had the last place offense this year, and that McCarthey was OC?
Sheesh!

3. I wouldn't overreact to the 49ers offensive standing |

Rookie QB for much of the season and a general lack of talent. The schemes looked fine to me and hardly predictable. Late in the year San Francisco was competitive offensively once Alex Smith settled a bit and Frank Gore was getting more carries.
Earlier in the day speculation was the Packers might hire defensive coordinator Jim Bates as head coach. IMO, that would have been a colossal error. Bates is a good guy but when he took over as interim coach for my Dolphins in 2004 he didn't run the ball nearly enough, and older assistants in general do not make ideal head coaches.
