Boggs to wear a Sox cap in the HOF
Edited on Sat Jan-08-05 09:51 AM by MaineDem
I just heard that on the radio.

Edited to add: I found a link.
But Wade Boggs hit his way into the Hall of Fame, and it was with the Red Sox that Boggs used his spray gun of a bat to deliver 2,098 of his 3,010 hits. The Baseball Hall of Fame recognized that yesterday, announcing that a Boston cap would accompany Boggs's likeness on his Hall of Fame plaque.

1. The Hall decides
Decision is based on where most of the history was created, as they are a historic museum. Personally I think the Red Sox should deny the right to use the hat and symbols since he jumped ship for $$$$$. Screw them one and all. Also Clemens, when his turn comes up.

5. Don't believe that's true
Rod Carew had a choice too, between the Twins and the CA Angels - he chose the Twins. I remember that quite vividly when he made the Hall.

2. Very Cool
When Boggs left the Sox I started to lose my patience with sports. I had to get around the basics of professional bartering within the sports industry, I just didn't like to see one of the best go.

Strange fact: He ate chicken before every game.

Superstition or just damn protein?

I Love Boston.

3. Was it his decision?
I like this, but I don't know if the players get to make the choice.

4. HOF decision
"If you take away any of my time spent with any of the three teams in my career, I'm likely not considered a Hall of Famer," Boggs said. "It's a decision they made, and I'm fine with it. If the Hall of Fame had picked my Little League cap, I would have been happy with that."

6. The HOF museum decides on the team logo that...
Edited on Sat Jan-08-05 01:28 PM by cruadin
will appear on the inductee's plaque:

"Who decides what team logo will be used on induction plaques?

The choice of which team’s logo appears on a player’s plaque is the Museum's decision, though we always consider the wishes of an inductee. As a history museum and as such, it's important that the logo be emblematic of the historical accomplishments of that player's career. A player's election to the Hall of Fame is a career achievement, and as such, every team for whom he played is listed on the plaque; however, the logo selection is based on where that player makes his most indelible mark. Visit our Hall of Fame plaque section to see the plaques of your favorite Hall of Fame members. "

7. That makes sense
He's going to the Hall based on what he did with the Sox, so why not?

9. 6 straight seasons, 200 hits or more, ALL 6 with the Sox
this was a no brainer. Boggs was always the commensurate professional.
An exemplary moment was Game 6 of the '86 World Series- Dave Henderson pounded the extra-inning, lead off solo shot deep for the apparent game winner. Marty Barret then followed, singled, stole second, and like a Hall of Famer should, Boggs then came up and coolly delivered the RBI single to give the Sox a 2 game lead, and all the premature champagne popping for Red Sox Nation.
I always loved this guy- my only reason to celebrate the Yankees win in '86.

12. Makes sense
That's where he won all 5 of his batting titles.

I am a lifelong Yankees fan, but I understand why the hall selected Boston.

Hopefully Clemens will go in as a Yankee, becauase that's where we had his most success.
