Official Superbowl Prediction Thread
Here's mine:

Denver vs. Seattle, with Denver winning by 14 points. Bet the house on it and retire early. Why?

Pittsburgh is a good team, and Big Ben is the next big Superstar QB. However, Shanahan does not lose big games at home in the playoffs. In fact, Denver has only lost one home playoff game since the AFL/NFL merger.

Without a running game, Carolina won't have any weapons, except for Steve Smith, and methinks that Seattle will have the entire Pacific Northwest covering him.

3. Carolina vs. Pittsburgh.
Denver did nothing impressive this weekend, other than manage to capitalize on the over-hyped shittiness that is the New England Patriots. I'm less confident about Pittsburgh going into the SB than I am Carolina, but they showed they can make big plays when they need to.

Carolina is just SOLID. Period. They are simply a well-rounded team. They aren't anything outrageously impressive other than Steve Smith, but they get it done. If Smith is totally covered, that will leave about 3 other receivers wide open.

Either way, all four teams are excellent, and I wouldn't be shocked to see any of them run away with the game. At this point it could easily be any of them - there's definitely no clear favorite for me.

11. Pittsburgh vs.... ?
Denver is a good team, but Pittsburgh's game against Indy wasn't a fluke. The only reason they lost so many games during the season was injuries to key players. They're healthy now. Nothing against Denver, but unless they can really capitalize on turnovers like they did against the Patriots, they aren't going to the big show.

While I think both Denver and Pittsburgh have been underrated, I think that both Carolina and Seattle have been overrated. Seattle had five games against opponents who finished the season with a winning record, and went 3 for 2 with losses to Jacksonville and Washington. Their wins came against Dallas (finishing 9-7 and out of the playoffs) who they squeeked by 13-10, the Giants, who should have beaten Seattle, but didn't and again Seattle won in overtime by a field goal, and Indianapolis in week 16 when they were already resting their key players.

Carolina was a bit better. They won against New England and split with Tampa Bay, but the only other winning team they faced was Minnesota while deep in their doldrums.

I think Carolina is the better team than Seattle, but with Foster out and Alexander with a concussion, it's hard to pick...

Either way the winner of the AFC Championship wins the Superbowl.

20. Can you make a football post that doesn't trash the Patriots?
You sure love to trash talk the Pats, but God forbid anyone speak ill of Terrell Owens... I've seen those threads, and you go absolutely ballistic. Don't dish out to other people what you're not prepared to take, k?

I can handle any of it. If I couldn't, I wouldn't still be coming here to post. I just like T.O.

The Patriots will be trash-talked about so long as they blow games like they did this weekend! If you can't take the heat sweetheart, don't let the door hit you on the ass on your way out! Being a fan means being able to deal with the trash-talking. If it makes you really sad inside, then take up knitting or something. This is FOOTBALL, not croquet. :)

26. That's my pick for who's going to the SB too.
I think the Panthers defense will handle the Seahawks and Pittsburgh seems to be peaking right now.

4. Denver vs. Seattle
Denver's Offense will get out of low gear and the D will be the force it was against the Pats.

Carolina's players will become suicidal when they see how depressing Seattle is.

Carolina's got a whole stash of weapons, even without Foster.

Carolina 24 Denver 17.

I'm rooting for John Fox, as he is the Giants' old DC. And one of the kids at my school, his cousin is denver's long snapper.

13. Denver vs. Seattle
But I think Seattle will win. Holmgren will want redemption against Denver and will get it. Denver should be favored by about 10 points or so, but that will be a mirage. Seattle has a better defense than people think and that will be the key. But we shall see.

18. You're Right (they've actually lost two home playoff games)
I had conveniently forgotten that game when I posted my last reply (ugh, what a horrible game), but they got WIPED OUT by the Jaguars.

They also lost to the Steelers at home in the '84 Divisional game, which is the one I was thinking of.

15. How doesn't Carolina have a running game?
Edited on Wed Jan-18-06 09:54 AM by kick-ass-bob
I know Foster is out - but have you SEEN Goings?

In 2004, he ran for over 800 yards. He is not a pushover - especially when half of running is due to offensive line play. Look for 100 yards from him this week. Seattle's defense won't stop Smith, either. He may not have 200 yards receiving again, but Seattle won't stop him.

Jake vs Jake in the Super Bowl.

Delhomme takes it on a Kasey FG at the end. :D

25. Lucky!
I think I'm one of about a dozen Panther fans in Iowa. If I get up to the neighborhood bar early enough on Sundays, the bartender will switch one of the satellites over for me. Otherwise, it's Packer/Viking overkill.

Go Panthers!

17. Carolina vs. Denver
Carolina wins by a hair in a high-scoring game, say 23-20.

Of course i'm a little biased.

24. The Panther bandwagon is overflowing.
:wow:

The 'Hawks are the best team left in the playoffs. 5 Pro Bowlers on offense. The Bears scored 21 on the Panthers. 'Nuff said.

Denver sneaks by on homefield advantage.

Seahawks 30, Broncos 24.
