Where's my depressed Dolphins fans? Word on the street in Philly...

A little birdie told me Terrell Owens may be headed to Miami come next season...

Are you guys excited? Disappointed? Nervous!?

1. Someone called for a Dolphin Fan?

"Jumps up on stage"

Yah I've heard from this little birdie also, which met a most unfortunate fate at the hands of the commie dog.

Honestly I'm not sure. He's a great player that's for sure. . . but after seeing what happened in Phillie, I know we disagree on how much fault T.O was at, I'm kind of hesitant with thinking this is a good idea.

I'll give you a better answer down the line promise.

Edit: So I guess the best way to sum it up is nervous. I would love to have the man's talent on the Dolphin's team obviously. However, I do worry, unfairly or not, about having another situation as he did with the Eagles during his second year. So right now I'm nervous . . want his talent. .. but also don't want a headache.

3. The phrase you seek is "conduct clauses"
Eight thousand of them in the contract.

Think 'silver bullet' and 'werewolf.'

6. I am sincerely jealous...
Really. I truly believe he's gotten the shit scared out of him. There isn't a doubt in my mind Rosenhaus filled his head with "they'll never suspend YOU! You're T.O.!" nonsense and Terrell bought it all. He never thought they'd actually suspend him (I know I didn't).

However, there is the possibility that he will be good for a year at most and then start this up again. He's getting up there in age and may figure whoever he plays for in the 2006-2007 season will be the last team he ever plays for.

But I am jealous. He is AMAZING to watch play in your team's uniform - I'd give my right arm to see him in just one more game as an Eagle.

7. "nods"
I do understand the thought of they'll never suspend you. At first I wasn't sure they would. Then I was shocked that they stuck with it.

Rosenhaus .. . I'm just going to shut my lips on him . . I've listened to him speak several times and I just can't stand the man.

And yah . . I remember some sport writers and such have talked about the idea of "renting T.O" for a year or so and then let him go to another team.

But like you said right now it's just a little birdie so we'll see what happens.

2. Alert trumad
:)

Not good news for my depleted crap-ass division.

Mangini to the Jets, TO to Miami...groan.

Gonna be a fun year next year.

Go Steelers. :)

5. There are a ton of rumors.
His idiot agent was floating the Redskins as the destination. Tampa Bay wants him and has said so. They need a QB in Miami, they already have a great receiver so I'd be surprised to see him go there.

8. Other priorities
The Dolphins are scrambling for an offensive coordinator after Scott Linehan took the Rams head coaching job. He may take one or two Dolphin assistants with him.

Miami needs another downfield playmaker. Chris Chambers has a big national reputation and undeserved Pro Bowl berth (over Reggie Wayne, what a farce!) but Dolphin fans realize he's more of a #2 receiver than a true #1 go-to guy like TO. Chambers drops tons of big passes and not all of them are difficult catches.

Saban called the receiving corps "decent" late in the season, so it wouldn't surprise me if he pursues TO. I'll go for it but I'm surprised TO would consider Miami, since Frerotte barely completed 50% of his passes last season and will be 35 next year. Unless TO has no other reasonable options I think he can handicap better.

10. The consensus among Dolphins fans...
...seems to be that Frerotte will almost certainly not be back next year. I would be very surprised to see Miami not go aggressively after a QB in the first round of the draft, on the trade market, or in free agency - or some combination of the first and one of the last two as another likely scenario. One possible scenario is a trade that goes something like this:

Miami's 1st round pick + Marty Booker (I doubt too many teams want David Boston right now, and if Miami gets TO they'll have depth to trade at WR) + 3rd-4th round pick in exchange for a 1st round pick a few spots higher - which they'll use to draft a QB to back up Steve McNair for next year, and to start the year after.

11. wait, how does Steve McNair fit into this equation?
You think the Titans will get rid of him and not have him around to mentor likely choice Vince Young?

12. I think Frerotte will be back
Edited on Fri Jan-20-06 11:54 PM by Awsi Dooger
Most likely as the starter. No doubt Saban and Randy Mueller will aggressively pursue a young QB but the draft position doesn't favor the Dolphins. Jay Cutler of Vanderbilt won't be there at #16 according to current slotting, and no one else is worth that pick, since Leinart and Young will obviously be long gone.

I can't guess about free agency or trades. Steve McNair is going to be cut due to a bonus he's due. Miami may pursue him but I'm not sure he's an upgrade over Frerotte, since McNair has much more tread wear than his actual age. The yards per attempt have really fallen the last two seasons plus he looked wobbly and weak armed in the game against the Dolphins in week 16.

Miami has Chet Lemon on the roster and he will be given a look.

The key for the Dolphins is simply to upgrade the overall talent level. It had slipped dramatically during Rick Spielman's tenure as personnel boss and GM. The defense is too old and the offensive line doesn't have any special players.

9. Two years, no more, and I'm happy.
Couple that with Linehan bolting, and - until the Dolphins hire their next offensive coordinator - this offseason has the chance to be a very good one.
