Congratulations Seattle Seahawks--2006 Super Bowl Champions!
Flame away!

Nobody read my earlier post, so I'll re-explain why this is not a prediction, but a prophecy.

This is based solely on one thing--mental preparation, and I truly believe Seattle will be better prepared mentally for the game. This is largely due to Holmgren, but also because I believe Pittsburgh will enter the game having bought into the pre-game crap about how they'll win, and do so easily. I don't think it's debatable that the AFC, on the whole, is now better than the NFC, but it's not so much better that the #6 seed should romp pver the #1 seed. Holmgren and his team will be ready, because they'll be ready to show how good they are--they've been over-looked all season.

I'm thinking it'll be a Tampa Bay-Oakland kind of Super Bowl.

If I'm right, I will keep kicking this post from now until September! If not, well.....

:hi:

6. You lost me when you mentioned the seeds
As soon as you made the comments about the seeds you lost credibility with me honestly. This isn't the old NFL where a 9-7 team has squeeked into the wild card berth and got lucky with some wins. The Steelers might just be the best wild card team, ever. Their injuries contributed heavily to three of their losses, with their third string quarterback playing in two of them, and their offensive line using rookies in vital positions while veterans healed. Yet they still finished 11-5, better than the #4 seed 10-6 Patriots, and losing the spot for the #3 Seed by a divisional record tiebreaker against 11-5 Cinncinati.

I think both teams will be prepared mentally. To say otherwise bely's a complete lack of understand of the Steelers. Both teams are focused, which should make the game even more interesting and fun to watch. The Steelers have their heads in the correct place, so don't worry about that. They truly feel lucky to be where they are, and are not taking Seattle lightly. They know they are a good team and are planning on giving them the proper respect.

Both Seattle and Pittsburgh have been overlooked all season, and the media would prefer any other game. They'd rather it be the Giants vs. Colts, or Patriots vs. Bears, or anything besides this matchup. They make fun of the game and both teams, about how the best story is maybe Bettis' homecoming, or Holmgren going for a superbowl win with two teams. Don't fool yourself into thinking that people have written this game off for the Steelers or they're disrespecting Seattle moreso...The national media would rather both teams not be there.

8. The Pats had their 19th string play their final game...
...so the record is somewhat deceiving.

In my original post I mentioned that players can buy into the media hype about a game...they're only human, and they start believing what the media says about them, and affects the way they play. It has ahappened far too often to numerous teams to simply say both teamns will be prepared...both coaches will try to get their teams prepared, but outside influences are a factor, and in this case, it'll work against Pittsburgh.

9. I don't get why Seahawks fans are so sure of a win
They sure talk a lot of smack for a team that has really failed to do anything remarkable in the playoffs, other than beat teams that really didn't even show up for the game anyway. Could they win? Well, they've got a 50% chance, so sure. But, neither team should be walking into this game thinking it will be an easy win, least of all the Seahawks.

10. 42-0.
Ring a bell?

The matchup that will decide it is the Steeler's O against the Hawks D. Seattle will score 21 guaranteed. Can the Steelers match it?

11. Explain how the panthers and 'skins
"didn't show up" for the games? That is absolutely one of the dumbest assertions I've ever heard.

Edited on Sun Jan-29-06 10:30 PM by friesianrider
Geez, how many interceptions did they have? They are (were) a good team but they SUCKED ass playing Seattle - and it wasn't because Seattle played so well. Kinda like Denver and the Patsies. The Patsies lost that game much more than Denver won it and Denver went to play the Steelers and got their asses handed to them.

Similarly, Carolina lost that game more than Seattle won it. And if history is any indication...

14. if you understood footballl half as well as you THINK you do
Edited on Mon Jan-30-06 01:58 AM by opiate69
you would realize that the reason Delhomme had a 1.9 QB rating halfway thru the 3rd quarter was because the Seahwks pass coverage and D-line dominated the Panthers. NOBODY on Carolina had a good game, and the reason for that was Seattle's superiority. Only an idiot would claim otherwise. If one or two guys all of a sudden have a bad game at the same time, maybe it's coincidence. But when the entire fucking team sucks ass, anybody with half a brain and an objective viewpoint knows exactly why. And, the last time I checked, defense was still part of a football team. To suggest the interceptions were indicative of Delhomme's ineffectiveness, and yet not give any credit to the defenders who read the offense and made the plays is simply further proof of your football ignorance.

That always an effective arguing tool - when all else fails, just tell the person they're "stupid" and "don't know anything." Oh, and you forgot to call me a meanie-weenie!

The attitude of Seahawks fans is reason enough to hope their sorry asses lose. Arguing with you is like arguing with a Republican - pointless.

Sunday will be rough for you, that's all I'm sayin' :hi:

21. No.. you "know nothing" because
you seem to think that offense is the only measuring stick for a team's performance, and that when a team's defense dominates it's opponents, it's the offense's fault for not playing well.

You're getting all offended because I said I am unimpressed with Seattle. Guess what? You won't change my mind, and if you had a chance to change it, it was before you started being rude.

Do I think they're a great team? Hell yeah, I do. I just don't think they're going to win. Maybe I'm wrong, and if I am, you can let me hear it :)

And, my apologies for any out-of line comments i may have hurled in yoru direction. here's to a great game. (and, should the Steelers win, I will gladly take the verbal ass-whoppin' that will be due.)

17. You just proved my point...
...instead of saying that the Seahawks played great (or even ok) in their two play-off wins, you come up with "teams that really didn't even show up for the game anyway."

Besides, I'm not a Seahwawks fan, and really don't care either way...my point is any thing the Seahawks have accomplished, far too many people simply dismiss it, and the Seahwaks will know that going into the game.

next Monday, we'll be hearing about how the Steelers 'didn't show up ready to play' as well,. It's absolutely amazing how many teams don't show up ready to play against the Seahawks. amazing.

19. One could make the argument that the Broncos and Colts
didn't show up to play...or you could say that Pittsburgh knew how to make them look bad.

Then again, if you say that, you can't possibly say the same for the Seahwaks!

20. I'm not dismissing them if I say theyre nuts if they think it's in the bag
They are WAY too pompous and arrogant. Even if they do manage to win, it won't be easy, IMHO. Their fans are surely excited, but to be acting like they're going to walk into Detriot and breeze to a win is absurd.

the first sentence, "they" referred to fans, but the next sentence "they" = the team.. in any case, I have no idea how it is in your neck of the woods, but here on this board, Rummy and I are the only regular posing 'Hawks supporters, from what I've seen..

27. Yeah, where are all these Seahwaks fans you talk about?
I hardly see any.

And when ESPN shows anything about Seattle in their Super Bowl coevrage, they focus on the controversy about "The 12th Fan." Seems to me the media is pretty much preparing for a Steelers win.
