Kornheiser in the ESPN MNF booth |
|
Will folks in the Red states go for Kornheiser?
And with Kornheiser and Joe Theisman in the booth, will it seem to North Eastern?
What do folks know about the play-by-play guy?

Or are you just postulating?
(Too lazy to look up sports sites) :)
EDIT - Saw the other thread. Interesting group, Theismann will always be annoying, but I do like Tirico & Kornheiser. Not too Northeast at all (says the Midwesterner/Southerner).

Very funny - I admitted my mistake.
Note to self - never doubt Mookie Wilson.

Ok I dont' hate him, I just disagree with many of his opinions. I think he might be a bit to partisan a guy to have on the monday night game. Still they had Madden and Cosell, so maybe he's the next in that "we need a guy to annoy people" role. From his PTI stuff he always struck me as too disrespectful on many topics and alternative sports, and honestly somewhat ignorant about football in many respects. I think maybe he's a baseball/basketball guy as opposed to football, but who knows.
I probably won't be watching it anyway unless my team is playing, or it's a somewhat interesting game. I think the biggest problem with the monday night game isn't the announcers but the games themselves. I think they should have made it a feature game, and then choose on a week to week basis what the feature game would be, then put that up on Monday night. So any week your team might be heading to Monday night, depending...Who cares about a Green Bay v. Cleveland game at the end of the season for instance? Ah well. I always got the feeling that lately Monday Night Football was more a West Coast thing, because it's hard to stay up till past midnight watching a game unless you really care about it, imho.

3. Kornheiser agrees with you about MNF! He doesn't stay up for it either. |
|
I'm the same way.
Kornheiser knows more about football than he lets on. His role on PTI isn't to be the smart guy, it's to be the funny guy. But, no, he's not specifically a football man, as it were.

4. I think they should have gone with Kornheiser/Wibon in the booth. |
|
But then again, PTI *is* my fave sports show, so maybe I'm biased ;)

He'll be there for the game anyway, since PTI will be filming on location those Mondays...

...Joe, Paul, and the talking head, were pathetic. At least Kornheiser has a voice, which will balance it out.

I think Kornheiser will be good, and may balance out the complete annoyingness of Theismann.

16. He's already pushing for Theisman's job! |
|
Or at least that was the impression I got on Weds.. Riggo was only half joking about it, once again, my impression. He was toned down about it Thurs.. (On his Sirius/NFL Network show)
I'm not a Theisman fan, I've always liked MacGuire. The new booth needed X's & O's, that's not Paul's game. Riggo would fit the bill better, IMHO.

Love 'im!
Especially like Tony when he's paired up with Michael Wilbon. Those two bicker so much they should just go ahead and tie the knot. }( Hmmmm... there's an idea for a TV series in there somewhere. Ha-ha!
Seriously, I'm not a fan of the Washington Redskins (an understatement) but my partner and I never miss the Redskins Report because George Michael, Sonny Jurgensen, John Riggins and Michael Wilbon are so damned entertaining. Sometimes Tony is in there, too.
I don't have anything against Theismann but he wouldn't be my pick for MNF. Madden always drove me nuts and Al Michaels is such a pompous ass he just can't help but to interject his RW political sniping into every game.
As for those sideline announcers -- will someone please hit the mute button! God, they are annoying as hell.

9. Jurgensen, Riggins and Wilbon |
|
Jurgensen is a really smart guy, even though he doesn't want anyone to know it. He got good grades at Duke too.
But, yes, I enjoy that show. It would be better without George Michael. And sometimes, when Tony is on he looks terrible!
As he said on his radio show yesterday, he'll need a really good makeup artist if he's going to be on HDTV.

10. Anything On Earth Would Be Better Without George Michaels |

How that guy made a career in broadcasting is a mystery to me? He's smarmy, syncophantish, and duller than dirt. Hopefully with the others in that crowd (i've never seen the show) he doesn't get much room to say anything.
The only sportscaster i've ever disliked more was Chicago's own Chet Coppock. The Professor

He is the most paranoid guy out there according to some people. Remember when Dennis Miller was in the booth? Every time Miller would say something Michaels would have to try to one up him. Did he really think that Miller was going to take his job. Now I love Dennis Miller, I know he is not a DU fave, but I still find him entertaining sometimes, and Michaels and Madden in the booth was unlistenable.

I always loved listening to him do the Redskins games on the radio - he is the best former 'Skins QB-announcer there is.

12. Sonny, Sam and Frank [boy do I miss him] 's greatest moment was... |
|
when the 'Skins game ended early and the network immediately shifted the broadcast to an Eagles game, so they called the last couple of minutes of that game. It was a riot.
Ditching Herzog was terrible. The new guy gets facts wrong and uses the word 'situation' in every sentence. They'd save ten minutes of airtime if he would just stop using that word.
Yes, I wear a Jurgensen jersey. I even got "Jurgensen 9" on my Washington Capitals jersey. No need to worry about him getting traded. I get a lot of compliments on that.

He's the guy who always catches my ear on the radio broadcasts. I love his "Aw, shucks," demeanor. It belies the fact that he's very knowledgeable. And he's the first ever middle line-backer!
