The Olympics are coming
and I have to say that I really don't care.
I like the sports. Bobsled, skiing, even biathlon.
I just can't tolerate the endless interviews and profiles of the athletes.
I don't care where they grew up. I don't care if their sibling had scoliosis and they lived in a commune in Yakima.
I just want to see the competition.

1. I love the Olympics
I agree though. I don't need to see some glitzy montage of a bobsled driver back on his farm in Wyoming milking cows while a voice over by his wife talks about how hard Ricky worked to get where he is today. I don't need it. I don't want it. Maybe it's because they're trying to show too much. I've heard that there will be hundreds of hours broadcast for the Olympics across all the NBC channels. Maybe they have just too much time to kill.

4. I love the Winter Olympics. But with the time difference
between Torino and the US, all the premier events will not be shown live. Bob Costas and Co. will be tape delaying all the important events til the ever-so-important 8:00 pm EST.

The coverage on the other networks, USA, CNBC and MSNBC will all be the events the American viewing public doesn't have a whole lot of interest in like women's hockey, curling, biathalon, cross-country skiing, etc.

They save all the good stuff for prime-time and indundate the viewers with fluff stories and commercials, commercials, commercials. I guess NBC has to recoup the money they gave the IOC for the television rights, but it would be nice to see some of the important events live.

I dread the thought of listening to Katie and Matt on Friday night for the opening ceremonies though. The two of them nearly put me to sleep four years ago because of their droning on and on in Salt Lake City.

2. No Girls Ski Jumping
There will be no girls ski jumping because the head of international ski jumping will not allow girls to participated in the event because he think from a medical stand point the bodies of the girls cannot with stand the jumping and landing. Yes I am serious about his comments, I heard them on nightly news tonight.

I will be watching the olypmics, but I am very upset and angry that girls will not be participating in the ski jump. Some of the girls actually jump further than the boys. One of the guys who will be competing for the US said his sister is better than he is.

7. That's so stupid
I'm speechless. Sounds like he's been transported here from the Victorian Age.
Gee, I wonder what he thinks about the 14 year old figure skaters.

8. Actually, there won't be any 14 year old figure skaters at the Olys.
Edited on Thu Feb-09-06 04:39 PM by mohinoaklawnillinois
The ISU has a rule that in order to compete at the Olympics, a skater must be 15 years old by July 1 of the year preceding the Olys.

I think this rule applies to the World Championships as well. I'm not sure about that, but I am about the age-restriction for the Olympics.

3. The Winter Olympics Rule!
A perfect anecdote to the most boring NFL playoff season in memory.

6. We're lucky can get Canadian Olympic coverage
Canadian TV focuses much more on the events and not on the 'human interest' long-winded features.
