Elway against T.O. joining Broncos
ESPN.com news services

While Mike Shanahan continues to entertain the thought of adding wide receiver Terrell Owens to the Denver offense, the greatest Bronco of them all has spoken out against T.O.

"I think there are a lot of things about T.O. that none of us really knows, but obviously he can ruin a football team," Hall of Famer quarterback John Elway told the Denver Post on Friday evening. "If it were up to me I would say no. I think the Broncos are close enough anyway, and they don't need a guy who's too much of a risk.

"The Broncos have a great locker room right now; they have a lot of good leaders in there. To have somebody come in who's worried about himself and not worried about what the team is worried about, I wouldn't do it."

Elway is the latest among former Broncos, including Terrell Davis and Shannon Sharpe, to voice their anti-T.O. sentiment.

1. They're just disgruntled, no-talent hacks
And FYI, nobody in Denver cares about Elway, TD or Sharpe anymore. If you walk down the 16th St. Mall and say "Elway" everybody will say "what way?". We're better off without 'em, the bums.

TO has more talent in his little toe than those three no good has-beens combined.

2. That's great and all but Elway is no longer on the team.
I think they'd be crazy not to take him. He's a beast. Beside that I don't want to play him twice a year.

I am not looking forward to seeing him play in another team's uniform this year. It will be interesting though to see Philly fan reactions when and if he plays for another team at the Linc. :)

3. T.O.'s problem is.........
he is a little boy in a grown man's body. He has talent, but he destroy's locker rooms. I can hear him now "I can't play with Jake Plummer or that Mike Anderson guy, they just ruin my game".

6. Why aren't the Colts in Baltimore, John?
It takes a selfish guy to know one?

7. Explain
I would like to know what Elway had to do with the Colts leaving Baltimore. As far as T.O. is concerned I think they should try to lay down the law before they take him. They should let him know that if he comes to the team he cannot cause problems with the other players. He should be instructed that if he plans to cause a disruption he should try to play somewhere else.

8. Baltimore drafted Elway. He told them he wouldn't play for them.
He went off to join the New York Yannkees who had drafted him. He forced Baltimore to trade him to Denver. Baltimore continued to suck, they got no love on the stadium front, so they moved to Indianapolis. Had Elway gone on to play for the Colts, they might have improved, gotten a new stadium and stayed. It's conjecture on my part, but I think it's an easy case to make.

12. Nice Job Reminding everyone of Elway's bullcr@p
I don't wanna play for Baltimore! I don't care if it was good enough for Johnny Unitas! It snot for Johnny Elway! I never wanted to see Elway win that SB Title, he had a great arm and enough escapability (as Madden might put it) to be a great QB but, with the stunt he pulled on Baltimore he lost my respect.

That being stated, I hope Shananhan gets TO and it destroys the Broncos. TO just isn't a good teammate to have, Jeff Garcia learned this, Donovan McNabb learned this, Andy Reid learned this, is Jake Plummer next?

10. The colts aren't in Baltimore because of shitty management
Edited on Sun Feb-12-06 08:24 PM by fishwax
shitty and selfish management. Baltimore knew before the draft that Elway would rather play baseball than play for the Colts. It was no secret. They drafted him thinking they could (a) call his bluff and force his hand or (b) get enough for him in trade to make up for it.

On Edit: while I at first blamed Irsay for this, I did a quick search and found that the GM Accorsi made the decision to draft Elway despite knowing he wouldn't play for them, and Irsay traded Elway w/o informing Accorsi. Poor management indeed.

11. One year deals
I'm a big Philly fan, and T.O. is simply disastrous for team chemistry. If Denver or any other team signs him to anything other than an incentive-laden one year deal, then their management are fools and deserve everything they've got coming to them. I can promise that it won't be pretty. I really think this man has some serious psychological problems, which is a shame given his athletic talents.

13. I'd roll the dice, with a one-year deal to start...
and take it from there. Randy Moss cleaned up his act once he realized the world doesn't turn on his axis, and I have to wonder if TO canning his agent isn't the first step on his way back.
