Source: Indiana's Davis to step down after season
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=2332230

Indiana coach Mike Davis told his team in the locker room after Wednesday night's loss at Penn State that he will resign as head coach effective at the end of the season, a member of the staff told ESPN.com's Andy Katz late Wednesday night.

The university scheduled a 3:30 ET news conference Thursday to discuss Davis' status.

Davis was direct when he talked to the players, telling them that he had enough of the stress and pressure that had been placed on his family. The source said the players were upset over the loss and didn't react any differently to Davis' news, almost sensing that it was a foregone conclusion.

1. It's been rumored for awhile now
And that Steve Alford will be named as Davis' replacement.

I've always felt so sorry for Davis, having to come in after Bobby Knight. Unless he went undefeated and won the NCAA every single season, Indiana fans just weren't going to accept him. It was a no-win situation.

Steve Alford is the Indiana golden boy -- he'll be welcomed with open arms, guaranteed.

2. It's official

No one, Alford included, could have followed Knight there. No one.

3. You're right
Davis was a sacrificial lamb. I hope he takes some time off and then lands on his feet elsewhere.

5. Do they still sell Texas Tech t-shirts in the IU bookstore?
I heard that mentioned by some sports writer. They were selling TT tishirts and sweatshirts for a while after Knight left.
