Detroit and Milwaukee are leading their divisions, and both have perfect records.

2. Making Predictions 5 Games Into The Baseball Season Is Folly |

Just ask the 2005 AL Eastern Divsion champion Baltimore Orioles.

Plus we can ask the 1951 Dodgers about holding a division lead which I believe got to 13 1/2 games, Bobby Thomson anyone though Ive been hearing now that Durocher's towner antics definely helped the Giants, and of course to make Pitt extra happy the 1978 Red Sox, which Bucky Fucking Dent did them in after they held a late summer lead in first. I believe to a lesser extent the Kansas City Royals more recently had gotten off to a great start only to blow it later. No one should make any judgements until 162 games are finished, I learned that the hard way last year.

6. It Happens Every Year, It Seems... |
|
...in 1989, the Baltimore Orioles were well on their way from pulling a "worst to first" AND a "wire-to-wire" job on the AL East. Alas, the Toronto Blue Jays had other plans.
...in 1995, the Los Angeles/California/Anaheim/Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim of the Planet Earth led the AL West for most of the year--until they endured not one, but TWO nine-game losing streaks in September. They managed to get back to a tie with the Seattle Mariners and force a one-game playoff--in which they got their @$$3$ handed to them, 9-1.
Hell, one thing keeping this Mets fan focused about their 6-1 start is the fact that it's their best start since 1985. That year they charged out of the gate to an 8-1 start. They even won 90 more games after that. Yet they still finished three games out and were home by October 5.
That's why they play the games, my friends... :D

Detroit lost today as did Milwaukee. Now if my beloved Cubs sweep the hated Cardinals, they will be in first place. GO CUBS!
