Poll question: NHL Playoffs...
...woot-woo! Nahh...personally, I'm pretty sour. My team, the Canucks, were awful. A theoretical Stanley cup contender at the beginning of the year, they were even leading the league back in November, but collapsed down the stretch and as a Vancouver Sun columnist said "they earned 9th place". Regardless of all of that, the Playoffs must go on.

So without further ado...who are you cheering for?

Other random NHL hockey related things you'd like to talk about?

But, more relevant to my poll, who do you think will win the Cup?

I included Tampa in the poll choices because they are the defending champions, even though they just might mis the playoffs.

3. That's who I'm gonna root for...
since there was an elaborate conspiracy put in place by Bush, Harper, and the Trilateral Commission to keep the Leafs out of the playoffs.

5. We need to get back a healthy Lundqvist
Weekes is OK as a backup, but Henrik Lundqvist is the Rangers Gold Medal Goalie.

The Rangers have been slumping since Lundqvist went down.

8. Go Sens Go.
As soon as we get Emery away from anything even resembling the goal, and Hasek back in, it's all ours baby!

10. You know I've always been amazed by Hasek...
...he has such a bizzare looking style of play, it looks like he's just geussing all the time and flailing about like a mad man. I think he's been lucky all these years, but I geuss he has to be quick too cause he's managed to be successful. Emery has apparently been bothered by an injury in the last little while, they better hope one of them is healthy. I sort of do to, cause I'm cheering for the Sens now that the Canucks are dead to me (until Nonis does something to prove that they're serious about winning).

12. It does look like he's constantly wondering what the hell
he's doing in front of a net. But he has been constant for many years, so it can't just be luck. The man must have uncanny reflexes.

...he can always work the refs. I remember watching him play in Detroit, the guy was diving better than Alexandre Despatie. And yet, he drew the penality. I hate that; unless the guy is on the team that I'm cheering for.

9. Let's go Red Wings!
I liked Vancouver before they had Crawford and Bertuzzi and I'll like them after those two are kaput, but I can't like them right now (except for Brendan Morrison).

Thanks for posting the picture of Mr. Hockey. He apparently once received a letter simply addressed to "Mr. Hockey, USA" from a fan in Europe!

My dog is named Gordie in his honor.

11. Well...
Edited on Tue Apr-18-06 01:54 AM by V. Kid
...I had to cheer for them due to Geographic convinence and all, and I know this is greedy, and I'll pretty much admit that cause I'm a fan I would take this position, but I would've pretty much overlooked what Bertuzzi did had he been effective. I thought his apology was heartfelt. But he seemed to have such a bad attitude that now I just think its best they trade him to Florida or something. He was just so lackadaisical and Crawford just kept playing him like he would snap out of it, yeah he had 70 something points, but he usually didn't show up at all, putting him on the ice is like being on the PK cause he does NOTHING defensively. And Crawford is useless, the only reason he won a cup in Colorado was because it would've been next to impossible not to. At least he encourages an open and exciting style of play, but certain top line Canucks have been so porous defensively that things have gotten ridiculous. The team didn't even have one shut out all year! Utterly pathetic.

14. Let's Go, Red Wings!
Wings are playing really, really well right now. Stevie Y and Shanny are at the top of their games and Wings get home ice through the playoffs. I say it's Red Wings all the way and Pistons all the way in the NBA playoffs and we have a double victory parade.

Let's Go, Red Wings!

21. I totally agree with your jaw dropping icon Sabers/Flyers
The Flyers have always been my team and always will, but I really have to start wondering what's going wrong with the team who was pegged by the Vegas line to win it all this season. Yes, they are making mistakes, yes, they have been lethargic and unorganized a good part of the time, but I have to look at the penalty minutes (75 Flyers/ 30 Sabers total games 1 & 2) and wonder why they let refs like Dave Jackson participate in these games. Not trying to be a whiny loser here, but Jackson, McCreary, Faucette, LaRue and Shick have always had it in for the Flyers. It's just a damn shame when they have the power to call the exact penalty on one team and not other. Then again, it doesn't help matters when the commissioner threatens the refs with sitting out if they don't call a lot of penalties!!!

Now, IMHO, we'll see somebody like Don Van Massenhoven, Don Koharski or Terry Gregson (all of whom are fair) ref one of the Philly games and there will be, on the most part, fair games called.

Of course, this is just my humble opinion and only time will tell.

"Not trying to be a whiny loser here, but Jackson, McCreary, Faucette, LaRue and Shick have always had it in for the Flyers."

sounds you're trying, successfully, to be a whiny loser. Yes, all the refs want the Flyers to lose. That's why they got a 5 seed and are loging to the Sabres

29. I picked, in another thread
The Wings over the Sharks in the Campbell final, the Sens over the Flyers in the Wales final, and the Sens to win the whole thing. Adjusting for the Wings' CHOKE, and other current events, let's make it:

Sharks over the Oilers in the West, Sens over the Devils in the East.

31. Second Round Predictions
Here's what we know:

We know that I got 4 out of 8 right (but two of those I got wrong I'm quite happy about! Go Avs! Way to go Oilers!!! :headbang:)

We know that whatever team comes out of the East, they will have uniforms colors of Red, White, and Black.

We also know that whatever team comes out of the East, they will have home ice advantage in the Finals. :tinfoilhat:

Let's see if I can do better in Round 2:

EAST
Devils over Carolina in 5
Buffalo over the Cubs, I mean Ottawa, in 6 :toast:

WEST
San Jose over Edmonton in 6 :applause:
Colorado over Anaheim in 6 :woohoo:

34. Round Three
Maybe I should give this up? Only one right in the last round? Don't know if I'm liking this "new" NHL :banghead:

Well, let's give Round 3 a shot.

EAST

Buffalo over Carolina in 6 :woohoo:

WEST

I want the Ducks to win, but I just don't know. These darn Oilers have been spunky. :dilemma:

Let's say Oilers in six. (Wish there was an emoticon of tossing a coin.)

19. Lord Stanley's Cup
Ok, let's see.. out of the teams that are in the playoffs.. I'm going to be a complete homer and go with hometown Anchorage boys~

So.. my choices are: NJ Devils (Scotty Gomez) or San Jose Sharks (new rookie.. and my neighbor.. Matt Carle)

~~ ~~

Local-yocal Ty Conklin plays for Edmonton (goalie), but I seriously doubt he'll get any ice time in the playoffs.

So in the hopes that I'll get to see the Stanley Cup in Anchorage again (Scotty has brought it home twice ), I'm rooting for NJ or San Jose!

You'd be insane to not consider them the team to beat in the East. They are the only team with a battle tested and cup proven goalie and they are on fire at the right time.

Sabres over Flyers.

...I'm amazed by this too, because they've lost so many good players in the last few years. And they seem really small-ish up front.
