What? No Reggie Bush thread? |
|
I heard Reggie (or his PR person) issued a press release saying the family "leased" the home from his new agent. Wouldn't give details as to what they were paying for rent on this $800,000 home, though. Hmmm.

1. Why should he give details? |
|
How much rent his parents pay on their house is none of our (nor the NCAA's) business.

heaven forbid anybody besides the NCAA makes money marketing college athletes.
I don't see why this needs to be public information.

4. Yeah, because they probably didn't even pay rent... |
|
...if they're not going to be forthcoming, it at least appears as if Reggie's agent let them stay there for free.
Guy wants to be Reggie's agent
Guy buys a home
Reggie's family moves into home
There's obviously cause and effect here, and even if they paid rent that could be considered reasonable, accepting the lease is probably a violation of NCAA rules.
Yeah, what they pay for rent is our business, and it's the NCAA's business.

5. No, it isn't any of the NCAA's busniess. |

And it isn't our business either. Who was getting hurt by any of this.

6. If he violated NCAA rules, then it is their business... |
|
...essentially he and USC have a contract with the NCAA to follow those rules. The family was in the home for the past year--when he was playing for USC.

7. Do you believe in NCAA guidelines? |
|
Agents are not allowed to pay athletes while they're still in school.

Amateurism, as practiced by the NCAA, is a load of bullshit. It shouldn't be any of their business how athletes or their families earn money, as long as it isn't anything that is actually illegal - ie drugs, gambling, etc.

10. So in other words, make up your own rules |
|
The discussion is the reality of the situation, not what you personally think the NCAA should be concerned about.
And if this goes down badly, USC may have to forfeit its championships.
We could have another SMU on our hands.
