Steve Howe dead at 48
NEW YORK - Steve Howe, the relief pitcher whose promising career was derailed by cocaine and alcohol abuse, died Friday when his pickup truck rolled over in Coachella, Calif. He was 48.

Howe was killed at 5:55 a.m. PDT about 130 miles east of Los Angeles, said Dalyn Backes of the Riverside County coroner's office. He had been in Arizona on business and was driving back to the family home in Valencia, Calif., business partner Judy Welp said.

1. I remember Steve Howe and his problems
How many chances did he have? And he blew every one of them.

There's a moral in this story somewhere.

2. People like him
Strawberry, Gooden, Robert Downey really says to me that drug addiction is an illness. These guys had everything but they just threw it all away.

3. exactly
I believe it is also harder for famous (and rich) people to find recovery, because they are somewhat insulated from their own consequences.

5. And, being rich and connected, it's too easy for them to find the snow
And probably too many "friends" willing to give them a great deal.

6. Substance Addiction Is A Mental Disorder
and it should be treated as such. Criminlizing addiction is like criminalizing depression.
