As a Phillie fan I wonder how many homers Mike Schmidt would have hit
if he were doped up like bonds. Just a different perspective on a timely sports story. How bout your old time favorite home run hitter?

1. Two words: Harmon Killebrew
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harmon_Killebrew

On steriods he'd have dominated.

2. So I guess there is something to this argument
that asterisks should be gratuitously used in baseball record books.

10. Asterisk should be used, how do you truly determine
how good someone like Josh Gibson who played in the Negro League was compared to his white counterparts. How can you measure the level of play between the major leagues and the negro league. Would of Gibson hit more or less homers if he had the chance to play in the major leagues. Then you have to factor in what if this guy was alive today playing and was on the juice would he make Barry Bonds numbers look like that of the average defensive shortstop.

3. As a Yankee fan,
I'd have to say Ruth would have hit 900+, Gehrig 600+ (his premature death notwithstanding), DiMaggio 450+, Mantle 650+, Reggie 650+. Just guesses.

4. Ruth may have hit a thousand
Lets throw Munson into that list. 500+

5. He may have, no doubt.
Munson, however, wasn't a power hitter: only 113 career dingers. He may have hit 200, though. And let's not forget Donnie Baseball, who could have hit 350-400, maybe 500 is his back hadn't gone on him.

8. Probably.
Considering he hit 714 on a steady diet of hot dogs, beer, and hookers. A .342 career average as well.

9. Ruth 1k
Gehrig 700 the rest of yours are on target... Paul O'Neil would have hit 450-550!! (I think he ended up with 300)

11. Not quite
"Paul O'Neil would have hit 450-550!! (I think he ended up with 300)"

Let's not be ridiculous.

Some guys could have used the steroids to bulk up a little bit though and it would have kept them healthier... A guy like Eric Davis could have been a 400 HR guy had he not been so small and prone to getting hurt playing hard in the field...

12. Hank Aaron is my all time favorite. He'd have hit 1000 HR's easily
if he had juiced up like Barry did. Schmidt would have 900 probably.

13. The 1976 Big Red Machine on 'roids?
Can you imagine -- Johnny Bench, Pete Rose, Joe Morgan, Tony Perez, Dave Concepcion, George Foster, Ken Griffey Sr., Cesar Geronimo et al all pumped up on steroids?

24. Wow, At least five of those guys would have hit over 60 homers!
They would have crushed everyone that year.

15. He also did it during apartheid
How many HRs would Ruth have hit against the Negro League players? That's the little problem those who talk about the unfairness of the steroid era--one in which pitchers also use(d) steroids--don't really want to address.

16. 3rd base is still more physically debilitating than the outfield.
But, yes, a whole lot more.

It's the INCREASE in the after 35 home run numbers that are the telltale signs.

18. Hondo would've hit 700-foot liners...
I honestly don't care if Bonds, et al, took steroids or not. I'm as big a baseball fan as it gets, and I still don't care. It doesn't bother me. It's just a game.

That said, Hondo on steroids would've killed people in the outfield bleachers, lol.

19. Remember the infiedler who was asked why he didn't reach up and ...
catch one of Howard's line drives that went out. "I didn't want to be pinned to the outfield wall."

Or the pitcher when asked what he thought about when Howard came to the plate: "My wife and kids."

Too bad Howard had a little league team batting around him. It's a wonder he ever saw a pitch worth hitting.

20. And Say Hey, let's not forget Willie Mays...
660 home runs while missing all of 1953 and most of 1952 (he hit 41 in 1954). Just without military service he would have hit more than 714, on The Juice (or The Cream or The Clear), I'd say 800-850, maybe even 900.

21. I saw something on ESPN.com that figured Bonds home run total w/o roids
It said 634 or something. It would still be nice to keep this guy away from Ruth and Aaron but my guess is this will be the most disregarded record in any sport ever when Bonds retires.
