Younger Vick joins Dolphins
Miami signed Marcus Vick on Monday, but the former quarterback at Virginia Tech probably will not play that position if he makes the team.

<snip>

"The Dolphins signed Marcus Vick as a free agent Monday. Don't expect the former Virginia Tech quarterback and brother of Atlanta quarterback Michael Vick to play quarterback should he make the roster."

<snip>

"Like his brother, Marcus Vick played quarterback at Virginia Tech. Unlike his brother, the Dolphins likely won't see him as a quarterback. They didn't even work him out at quarterback during the final day of rookie camp, instead playing him at receiver.

The Dolphins already have three quarterbacks. But the talents and size (6-0, 216 pounds) of Vick are similar to those of Antwaan Randle El. Pittsburgh drafted the 5-10, 192-pound Indiana University quarterback, then deployed him as a wide receiver and returner because of his explosiveness in the open field."

<snip>

"A big reason Vick wasn't drafted was a stream of on- and off-the-field incidents while in college. He was suspended for the 2004 season and kicked off the team after the 2005 season. When Vick stomped on a calf of Louisville defensive end Elvis Dumervil during the Jan. 2 Gator Bowl, he might as well have been stomping on the rest of his college career. Soon after, he was charged with three counts of brandishing a firearm in Suffolk, Va."

1. Bad idea
I do not see why the Dolphins drafted him. With the trouble he has had they could have just gotten some other kid from the draft. I do not see him changing in order to be a better player. I think he will continue to get into trouble.

2. They didn't draft him.
He is a free agent-very little money changed hands. Might as well take a flyer on him.

3. They didn't draft him
He's Undrafted Free Agent however I don't see him getting much playing time even if he makes the team. Unless Culpepper and Joey Harrington both get hurt than we might see Vick in games.

4. Understand Not Drafted
I understand that he was not drafted. I used the word drafted in terms of the team even taking him. I do not think the team should have even taken him as a free agent.

7. Even if he does he'll be third string on that team
The Fins QB situation looks like this right now. Culpepper starting and Joey Harrington backing him up. If Vick makes the team he'll back em up.

10. it's not a bad job, really
maybe one of the best in Sports. You make a couple of hundred grand to do nothing. Almost as good as being the 25th man on the Yankees. Although he might have to pinch hit every now and then.

11. What about the rarely used pitcher on the team
I'd like that more. I hated hitting because I sucked at it.

12. hang out in the bullpen and throw like ten innings a year?
for a million plus? I'd rather be in the dugout, give me second string 3B, behind a golden glove.

13. I loved pitching when I was a kid
That's why I'd prefer pitching. Speaking of third base I was good at that too despite the fact I am a lefty. Only position I never played as a kid was catcher, I did it once in a practice and a for fun softball game in my freshman year of high school during gym but other than that notta.

14. Meh, not a bad idea
It's not a big risk, really - sign him, stash him away on the practice squad, send him to Europe, and see if something happens. If not, or he screws up, he's gone, and the Dolphins haven't lost much.
