1. Why, why, WHY do people persist in still calling the Pistons the Bad Boys?
That was the late 80s/early 90s team. This is a completely different group of guys! Furthermore, they collectively keep out of trouble, the majority of them are married family men (team owner provides travel and accommodations to take family on the road), and show exemplary teamwork. What ON EARTH is the problem with that?

They just finished an intense 7 games series -- so what if it wasn't supposed to go 7 games; it did. They had one day off and then had to play again -- against a team that had a week of rest. Yep, they're tired. Who wouldn't be?

Don't worry. They'll bounce back.

12. How about dissing his teammates?
They had to split up the Lakers because Shaq and Kobe couldn't stand the other getting attention. Arrogant and childish.

Sheed's comments are always with a smile. In fact, he once got called for a foul for smiling! Come ON.

39. Sheed Cursing In Front Of The Camera During Game 3*
Hubie Brown had to apoloigize.

Sheed refusing to return an outstretched hand by his coach.

Ben Wallace and Sheed publicly ignoring Flip.

Making faces of incredulity every time they are called for a foul

That's disrespectful.

*By the way I have no problem with cursing. We do it here but national tv is a different forum.

40. "Making faces of incredulity every time they are called for a foul.."
Wade handles Pistons, critics with equal skill

<snip>

"This is what you get when Dwyane Wade is irritated.

He doesn't like the Detroit Pistons. He has said flatly that there isn't an NBA team he likes less. They bump him when he isn't in the play, and they hit his legs when the refs aren't looking, and they moan about fouls called against them even though they get fewer fouls called against them than any team in the NBA. The Pistons always are surrounding the ref with bitter-beer faces, cursing and shouting at an old man as the free-throw shooter takes his place at the line without limbs, hemorrhaging so much that the sweat boys need extra mops to clean up the blood.

Wade feels the Pistons don't respect him or his team, which is a tired complaint from athletes but an unusual one from him, given his humility. He is more inclined to take respect than request it. So when Pat Riley was asked early Saturday about a Detroit newspaper columnist writing that Wade was a whiner, Riley gave a meandering answer before offering pregame punctuation for what Wade would later turn into the statement.

"Dwyane will handle it," Riley said."

3. Well, there's the problem . .
They underestimated the Cavs and didn't take them seriously. No one really did. No one, except the Cavs themselves.

The Pistons still have just as good a chance as anyone to win the title, but they better do it soon. They're only getting older and the Cavs will only get better. Just a matter of time before LeBron and crew finally deliver Cleveland's long starved-for holy grail of a Championship.

10. Wasn't just him.
Z turned into a big damned matador down the stretch, the rest of the team laid bricks in the third and fourth quarters (fortunately, so did Detroit for those three wins). But yeah, we were a stone-handed moment by Flip away from pulling it out.

I still say gaining Flip was a better off-season move by Ferry than Jim Paxson had in six seasons. He's one of the reasons we got 50 wins without Hughes.

its unfortunate, but it's the way of sports psychology. The ironic thing is, before that game, we were lauding murray as our savior, and then turned on him suddenly.

the Pistons thrive on adversity, especially in the playoffs. If it ain't rough, it ain't right!!

Shaq found that out last year, and Wade seems to frustrate easily when he gets called for charging. Talk about cyrbaby!!

They won one championship a couple of seasons back and you guys make it out as if they're a dynasty.

They should have swept the Cavs easily---instead they now cry fatigue against a team that is on a roll.

And the Heat won, um, when? Or the Cavs?

Pistons are in the Eastern Conference Championship game for the 4th year in a row -- according to the announcers they're the first team to accomplish that since Jordan's years with the Bulls.

Dynasty? No. Consistent winner? Yes.

11. Why do people hate the Pistons? Because they play team ball?
I can only conclude that's the reason. Note: you can't discuss the Heat (stupid name, by the way) without mentioning Shaq; can't mention the Cavs without talking about LeBron James, etc. The media doesn't like the Pistons 'cause they don't have a SUPAHSTAH; the NBA feels the same way, and Nike probably hates it most of all.

Oh, and you don't think 'Sheed does his talk without a smile on his face? You must not have watched him much.

This actually reminds me very much of how the media treats politicians. They all must have known deep down that Bush was not qualified to hold high office, but they went ahead and promoted him anyway. Al Gore was a "wonk" who didn't "have a personality". Well, I'll take my wonkish Pistons any day over the egoheads like LeBron James and Kobe and Shaq. GO PISTONS!

21. Heat is not a noun, it's not a thing; it's a verb
How can one BE a heat? Or a wild? Or a liberty?

Of course Miami is hot. But are their residents or fauna or even flora called 'heat?'

Pistons, on the other hand, are automobile parts and Detroit is the Motor City. The origin of the Tigers' name, I believe, was explained in another post (reference to their striped socks) and the Lions' name was supposed to complement it. Are there Bengals in Cincinnati? Raiders in Oakland? Giants in New York? Warriors in San Francisco?

28. Jesus, LeBron's NOT an "egohead"
Look at his assist stats throughout the years. Ballhogs don't have those kind of numbers. If anything, he should be more selfish at times, since quite often when he dishes after being triple teamed the teammate bricks. He's very level headed on and off the court.

and he very ostentatiously had Mother's Day flowers for his mother and girlfriend sitting on their chairs courtside the day before Mother's Day - the two of them didn't proceed to make their splashy entrance until the second quarter - oh, and he drove a Hummer in high school. You're right; no ego there. I don't think there's anything wrong with giving the women in his life flowers, but he made darn sure everyone knew he did.

16. I just don't like those new names
Heat, Magic, Storm.......don't care for them. I like old-timey names. I think that that Tigers' name (but I'm not sure) came about from wearing striped stockings way back when. The Lions used to be called the Spartans and were based in Ohio briefly (back when the football teams were sponsored by companies!) and I think they changed their name to match the Tigers in the 1930s when they came to Detroit. The Pistons have an awesome name! I like names like that, Packers, Pistons, Boilermakers. I also like names that have to do with a state animal - Wolverines, obviously, Badgers, Beavers, Gophers.

The Lakers had a good name when they were based in Minnesota, though it doesn't make much sense now.

Many of the WNBA names are supposed to do that - Blazers/Heat, for example, though in that case, some really stupid person was apparently extremely ignorant of what Blazers is actually supposed to mean.

32. Agree On Shock; Liberty is Nice
I somewhat agree with you on the issues of the Shock being off as a team name, but I think the name Liberty makes. I figure the name came from the fact that many people passed through Ellis Island when they were immigrating from Europe in around the 20s and 30s. When the WNBA teams were named everyone believed the Statue of Liberty was in New York. A few years ago New Jersey petitioned the courts to declare that the Statue of Liberty was actually a part of New Jersey. I am not sure of the results, but I think the courts may have declared that the Statue of Liberty is a part of New Jersey.
