Steelers Fans in Pennsylvania: Truth or Fiction?
Edited on Wed Jan-12-05 09:51 PM by Penndems
1. Any truth to the rumor that Ben Rothlisberger is donating his paycheck for this weekend's game to a tsunami relief fund? If he is, his stock went up ten-fold with me! (It was high already.) What a class act he is.

2. Was Big Ben told by the league that he is no longer allowed to write on his shoes "PFJ" and the number 40 (supposedly). (PFJ stands for "Play for Jesus" while the number 40 was Pat Tillman's number.)

(On edit: typo)

3. Thanks, I wasn't sure
The second comment is making its way around the right-wing message boards, who are expressing their usual level of righteous indignation.

5. They made him do it 4 or 5 games back...
remove the writing from his shoes to conform to league regulations and the local radio and TV reported it at the time. And yes, it did stand for what you indicated.

6. Seems kinda silly, ya know?
I mean, he wrote it on the sole of his shoe, right? He knows the writing's there, his dad and the fans know it's there. The national T.V. audience doesn't and, even if they did, I don't think there'd be much of an uproar.

The NFL is making a mountain out of a molehill, IMHO. I mean, it's not like he fake-moons opposing teams or something, LOL.

7. True, but somebody saw it and turned him in or somebody from the league...
saw it. Nobody that reported on it that I heard said how they discovered it, but it is a league regulation and they do enforce it. I was worried at the time it might effect his next game (you know, just bother him with a winning streak on the line) but he is too much of a professional, one cool cucumber for a rookie QB, for it to get to him.

8. You're so right - he is cool under pressure
One of the most poised rookie QBs I've seen in a long time.

He'll do great on Saturday. It's gonna be a heck of a game. Hubby and I are going to be nervous wrecks! :scared:

9. I haven't been a Steelers fan for a long time because the Penguins...
are my first love, but with no hockey to get me through the winter, the Steelers have been a fine substitute (or as fine as it gets without ice and skates.) I just found the Steelers wonderfully entertaining this year and my interest has increased (instead of waned) game after game. It's not just Big Ben either. I think Bettis looks almost as good as he was at his peak. Keep your fingers crossed for Saturday and so will I. Are you going to the game or watching at home? Lucky you if you get to go. My hubby and I will be glued to the tube. Wave your terrible towel at me if you're going to be there!

10. Hubby and I are back in my home state of Virginia
so we'll be watching the game on television. We're getting the snacks ready and we've got the sodas on ice! :)

That young man has generated a lot of excitement both in the league and in Pittsburgh. The folks in his hometown of Findley, Ohio must be bursting with pride, too. I've got a friend who works as a bartender on the Strip, and she tells me that town is ON FIRE over both him and the Steelers' Super Bowl prospects. Lisa says that stores in P-burg can't keep Big Ben's jersey in stock because they sell out as soon as they hit the shelves!

I'm looking forward to seeing both the "Stillers" and the "Igles" in Jacksonville in three weeks.

4. Thank you, thank you
With all the positive publicity Ben's generated, there's been some that I'm not really sure of. 'Precite you setting me straight. :D
