Wimbledon Ladies Final ****SPOILER**** |
|
A rematch of the Australian Open but this time Justine didn't retire. And this time Amelie got to experience Match Point.
It looked like a no-brainer for Justine in the first set but it turned into a great match to watch.
Amelie wins in three sets. Is this the start of a great sports weekend for France?

I didn't think I would care about this final but I rooted for Mauresmo from start to finish. Justine made me sick by claiming this week that she shouldn't even have attempted the Australian final in January. Plus all the broadcasters on Sportscenter and elsewhere kept diminishing Amelie's win in Australia by saying Henin-Hardienne was forced to retire. Hello? It wasn't exactly even when she quit. It was one of the poorest acts of sportsmanship I've ever seen and several of us were posting that here.
Once Amelie becamse more aggressive and confident early in the second set you could sense the momentum switch and Justine slowly gave way. Even when Justine overcame a break point at 1-3 then broke back to even it on serve, I never felt Amelie would lose the final set.
Where is Joey, BTW? You can always count on him for the tennis threads and I've missed them in the French and now Wimbledon.
