you know what I don't like about competitive eating? |
|
It's much like poker or the spelling bee, where some nameless guru at ESPN decided it's going to be the Next Big Thing. The day after the hot-dog eating contest, participants were getting interviews on ESPN radio, and the result showed up on the ESPN News ticker. ESPN is so dominant in the sports media, and it bugs me how they try to decide what we're all going to be talking about.

1. What doesn't pass for a sport these days? |
|
What's next...chess? Chinese Checkers? Knitting?
Also...I find the whole notion of eating as a **cough** sport fairly sick. It's just creepy.

2. What I don't like is the incredible gluttony. |

I think eating contests are a disgrace considering the amount of people in this country that are starving. No one needs to eat 50 hot dogs or 200 hot wings in a sitting for any reason at all. It's disgusting and a tremendous waste.

Hearing the interview with one of the contestants on ESPN radio made me a little nauseated. The phrase "ate 50 pounds of baked beans" will do that to people.
