Hendry will not take any responsibility for this train wreck of a season, will not trade players because "we are not all that far off", will not fire coaches for whatever reason, likely arrogance, and doesn't seem to care at all about the frothing fan base. Sounds republican to me. "Screw you jack, I'm making money. I don't care." seems to be the mantra of the Cubs organization. Sigh. I wonder if there's a 12 step program to kick the Cub habit?

1. I've come to the conclusion a few years ago
that the cubs are simply a TV show owned by the tribune and nothing more. They don't care about winning only TV Ratings, putting butts in seats and merchandise sales that's it. The chase for a championship and there's always next year brings in the $$$$$. Unlike most sports teams that win a championship if the cubs did the interest would go down, because the appeal is being the underdog.

Had Me, Had Me, Lost Me
I don't think their winning would dilute the interest at all. I think the Cubs have done a masterful (albeit bittersweet) of marketing the "experience" of Wrigley. They don't have to market the team at all! So, if they did win it all, they would still be marketing the ballpark.

3. The Cubs have fired coaches and managers more often than
just about any team in sports the past 25 years. Hendry and Baker have achieved more for the Cubs than anybody since 1945. Sure, I think that Baker should pay more attention to OBP when he makes out his lineup card, and that Hendry has erred a few times lately. But this organization badly needs stability.

We Cub fans are a desperate bunch. And management has caved into this 'make changes NOW!' attitude countless times in my lifetime. The result has been a complete lack of continuity. Until Hendry/Baker, the Cubs hadn't been over .500 for two years in a row since Durochers bunch from the late 60's early 70's.

Hendry/Baker are far from perfect. But sticking with a management team is the one thing the Cubs haven't tried in my lifetime. I'd like to see these guys given a couple of more years at least. Noone could have predicted Lee being out this year, and Hendry has played his 'Prior and Wood are hurt' card for the last time.

Remember, Hendry is the guy who traded for Aram, Kenny Lofton, DLee, Randall Simon, Garciapara, and Barrett and gave up nobody of significance. If Bobby Hill, Hee Sop Choi, Agonz, Bendan Harris, Francis Beltran, Justin Jones and the others are doing anything in baseball, it isn't much. I think we could do much worse than Hendry/Baker and as a matter of fact, we have.

But don't give up Bluzzman! Only those who have known struggles can truly enjoy success!

GO CUBS GO!
