An obvious understatement
Tiger Woods is really good. Another wire to wire victory in the British Open. Congrats to Woods.

1. There was a commerical for a Tiger Woods video game
where he's waiting for his partner to putt. But in Tiger's presence, the partner starts shaking as if his golf club were a jackhammer. A sportscaster described the commercial as the essence of Tiger Woods, that others wilt under even the THREAT of his dominance, as Sergio Garcia did. The commercial didn't run for very long, and I strongly suspect that the PGA asked Tiger to pull it. Anyhow, congrats and welcome back!

2. I remember Butch Harmon predicting his British Open dominance
Edited on Sun Jul-23-06 10:17 PM by Awsi Dooger
That Tiger would win more that major more than any other. Seemed strange at the time, since the Masters was conventional wisdom for that category.

It makes perfect sense now since they don't mess with the classic links courses, Tiger-proofing them by lengthening the holes and narrowing the fairways. As long as Tiger isn't overswinging off the tee with his driver and blowing it into the right rough, he's damn tough to beat, especially by this generation which inevitably folds if Tiger is in the hunt.

I won on Tiger today. The overnight odds were only -130 which seemed like a bargain. One reason I bet it was the certainty to throw out Sergio completely. That tentative crosshanded putting style is never going to hold up on Sunday, especially if he's paired with Tiger.

Now on to Medinah. Fairways just got two yards narrower, after today's result. And looking more and more likely Tiger will catch and pass Nicklaus at 18 majors.

3. and he did something even Jack never did
which is to win the Open on English soil. Links courses are perfectly suited to Tiger's game, when he's playing well, and the errors he forces by being Tiger are so much greater than on even a US Open course. Another thing that helps him in The Open is the relative lack of experience of much of the field, this open drew 225,000 people, shattering the old Open record, and Tiger is used to having ten thousand people following his every move, most of the Europeans, who should have an advantage on links courses, simply aren't. I'm not sure about Medinah, but as long as he thinks he still has something to prove, and Phil still has the yips, and Sergio can't putt, and Ernie can't finish, he's gotta be, once again, the favorite. what happened to Vijay, again?
