As of today he's hitting .283, 32 HR, 94 RBIs and a .387 OBP
that and he's only the 9th guy in baseball history to have 3 grand slams in one month

1. Depends on how the playoffs go IMO |
|
If you guys get to the World Series instead of Pujols and the Cards than Beltran would probably win but then again A-Rod and Oritz were the two AL frontrunners last year and the Yanks and Sox got eliminated in the first round. Amazing though three grand slams in one month.

2. MVP is supposedly voted on before the playoffs |
|
I dislike the Mets intensely, but must admit, Beltran is a good choice for National League MVP at this point. Another Met who may be deserving is David Wright. Grrr...this kills me, because I, like any good Midwesterner, don't like the Mets, but those two guys seem to be the frontrunners for MVP at this point. But don't count out Pujols just yet.

3. Pujols should still be in the frontrunning |
|
In my opinion. I know that an Oriole wont win ROY or MVP though any other year I think people would at least be talking about Nick Markakis.

4. As long as the Cards make the playoffs Pujols has a shot |
|
I think it's pretty well recoginized that this was a down year for the Cards and to still win their division it would show as a sign that Pujols carried the entire team to that division title.
And hey Andre Dawson won it in 1987 for the Cubs.

10. and my all time fave Ripken won it in 1991 |

I'd say Beltran, Pujols, and Wright are my three frontrunners for NL MVP. If I had a chooice for ROY, I think I could go with Ryan Zimmerman but I don't pay attention to NL ball other than the Nats mostly. Now the AL is oging to be real interesting since you have Verlander, Papelbon, and Lirano who all have pitched good enough to be ROY and Cy Young winners. It's hard to say who has the advantage there, Papelbon has the advantage of playing in a big media market but the other two guys are starters and starters generally haev a better chance of winning awards for pitching than relievers. Either way I hope all these guys do great in the future.......except against the Orioles. Nick Markakis is going to be a star too I think but no one knows it because the Orioles fraknly stink and those other three guys ar ehaving amazing years.

The Astros gave him away in an effort to keep Roger Clemens. I have always thought that was a bad deal for the Astros. I thought that if they had had Beltran last year in the playoffs they would have won the World Series. They should have let Clemens go in order to keep Beltran. However, I am not an Astros fan so I am not at all upset that they lost the series last year and might not make the playoffs this year. I guess all Mets fans are thinking the Astros this year.

8. He had a rough season last year... |
|
but he had some injury troubles and no protection in the line up. Right now he's having a career season and I couldn't be happier. So I guess if he helps us win a World Series, I should send a letter of thanks to Houston :P

Too many writers out in the west and midwest to give it to Beltran.

Even I was getting down on him last year, especially after the collission with Cameron, whom I liked a lot. But what Carlos has done the last month has been one of the finest streaks I've ever enjoyed. I went to the Braves game on Sunday and watched him hit two homers, 6 RBI. But not yet MVP material. Needs to be more connsistent.
