you can't keep the retired captain on the team after such a dissapointing campaign. Becks is old, he still has a magic foot, no question, but he has long since lost the ability to keep up in the midfield, frankly, he was never that fast, or a good defender. Yes, he is tough, and yes, he is brilliant at free kicks (even now, from 30 meters out or closer, you want him over the ball, but that's not enough to justify keeping him. McLaren needed to make a change, and Becks isn't in the picture anymore.

There's only one Owen Hargreaves, after all.
