1. I think he should. And Steinbrenner needs to buy some new players.

2. Personally I'm tired of all this bullshit
all the Boss is trying to do is steal the headlines away from the real story...the New York Mets...ya know the baseball team that is still ALIVE in the playoffs

5. If that was his goal...
he would have stretched it out over the next week.

At least he didn't leave Torre twisting in the wind. I'm a Red Sox fan but I have tremendous respect for Joe Torre. I think he is a class act and (unfortunately) the Yankees have thrived under his leadership. When one considers what happened to that roster this year, plus the constant distraction that is Alex Rodriguez, this was probably one of Torre's best performances as manager. It would have been nice to see how the AL East would have played out if Jason Varitek hadn't gotten injured, but the Yankees played good ball down the stretch and pulled away. I don't fault Torre for the collapse in the playoffs.

The Yankees are a bunch of high-paid superstars who do not play with the heart or fire that other teams have. They are too easily satisfied with their fat paychecks and care more for individual glory than the success of the team. That passion cannot be instilled by a manager. It is either within the players or it is not. The A's, the Angels, the Marlins, the D-backs and the Red Sox all have had that desire. If the Yankees do not find it again, they aren't going to win the World Series again no matter how many All-Stars they put on their roster.

6. It's not over yet...there's more drama to come, I know it
If Steinbrenner can do one thing well, it's manipulating the NY sports press...he loves capturing those back pages

4. Torre only has one more year left
on his contract. Seems like the logical thing to do to me anyway.
I thought Torre made some bad calls this year (and in past years) but it's the players more so than the manager that didn't perform when they needed to.
