I had no dog in this fight -- figure the Tigers will crush whomever they face, BUT --
But tonight it got really interestin' fer sure. :) Who doesn't love a great game like that one!?
What was most "amazin'" to me about the entire night was how many great chances BOTH teams had -- and just couldn't quite get it done. Over and over ... it had to be VERY discouraging to both sides. Which may have kept the game in a fine sort of balance, and that in turn is (at least partly) what made for such a good game in the end, I guess.
Somehow all along I still didn't think Albert was gonna get the "big one" that sealed it tonight ... can't say why I thought that ... maybe because of how he had been (not) hitting during this series (and post-season)? Or the fact that he's been obviously playing hurt for most of the season? Not unlike plenty of others, I must add. :)
I doubt he'll be held to that sort of limit in the upcoming WS -- he's just "too due" by now. But still, it was a credit to the Mets' pitching, and the whole team playin' defense, how they handled the Cards' big guy in this NLCS -- AND all the rest of them Birds too! :applause:
Unfortunately, that wasn't enough; and it seems to me that once again, it came down to the pitchin'! Right guys n gals? Which also means the WS this year should be VERY interesting, given what the Tigers are bringing to that contest as well. And ya can't help but ask, what WOULD have happened in this NLCS IF the big two of the Mets' pitching staff had been in the match?? Sure would have liked to seen what they could do, too....
Also, regrettably for the Birds, it looks to me like, as in so many past post-seasons, the Cards are going into the WS after having worn themselves out to a fare-thee-well in the NLCS and so must face the Tigers now with a sorely depleted team goin' in. Sucks sooo much outta ya, having to go seven games in your league championship ... and then the 7th one proceeded with high tension to the very last inning before being decided! <Whew!>
Cool and solid as Suppan and Flores -- and of course Wainwright -- remained, in spite of the Chavez catch (WOW, just WOW!), it still MUST suck an amazing amount of energy out of all the team members to have to work THAT hard for the win in a seven-game NLCS series!
Then again, everyone is playing tired and battered by this time of year -- well, a lot of them anyways. Even the Tigers ... but of course, having ended their championship series so early is giving their players some precious time to recupe and heal and restoke their energies.
Could still be a terrific World Series, of course. I can't help but remember '04 WS for the Cards; it couldn't be any worse for them this year, could it?
I'm sayin' it'll be the Tigers in five, maybe six.
Been pullin' for the "amazin'" Tigers since mid-season, and I'm "seriesly" looking forward to the treat in store for us all, comin' up soon to a ballfield near you! :D --Actually, I've been rootin' for the Tigers in a way, deepdown, since their astonishing comeback win in 1968! :applause:
(Sorry for the long analysis, but I'm feelin' all gratified and happy from the good baseball I've been seeing this season -- and post-season! Can hardly WAIT for the. World. Series.!)
