Gary Sheffield traded to Detroit Tigers!
The irony is rich; he is apparently leaving New York for Detroit because he feels he will have a better shot at winning a World Series.

They traded 3 minor league pitchers for him.

1. Detroit gave up some good arms. Yankees may have won that trade.

2. Um Sheffield was traded not a free agent
"he is apparently leaving New York for Detroit because he feels he will have a better shot at winning a World Series"

He is leaving NY because the Yankees have too many OFs who are better/cheaper and because the Tigers offered the most attractive trade package. Sheffield had no choice in where he was sent.

3. Uh....it was a joke!
But I have learned over the years that 1) Yankees' fans don't have a very good sense of humor; 2) they feel they are entitled to win all the World Series; and 3) they think that the World Series is not interesting unless the Yankees are in it!

The Tigers have tons of young arms. I think they'll be fine.

5. Is Rogers staying?
I hope so. He deserves a ring, so he can put it on his clean hands and rub it in Joe Buck and Tim McCarver's faces :P

6. I think he's signed for one more year.
That was an ink smudge on his hand during the series.

8. This was a great rade for the Yanks
We gave up a disgrunted player whom we had no room for and who was going to leave anyway and get 3 good young pitchers.

10. So? we have the ultimate stockpile plus...
if Sheffield has a bad attitude or doesn't produce, then Leyland will bench him! We have an excess of guys who can DH just as well. We acquired him as a security blanket! :hi:
