Imagine College Basketball run by BCS mentality |
|
Number one vs number two during some Sunday Afternoon in Early March; maybe with roller derby as a lead in.
- No March Madness - No big show setting the brackets - No madness at regional sites - No upsets - No cinderella stories - No sweet sixteen - No elite eight - No final four
Now imagine College Football run like the College Basketball tourney (say with eight or even 16 teams.) March Madness would seem like a thursday afternoon tea at the Heritage Foundation.

1. you don't have to tell me that the BCS is screwed up... |

IMHO March Madness is the most exciting thing in all of sports, and if it were somehow applied to college football...holy crap! It would be amazing

2. How about college football rewarding a 30 yard TD with 9 points |

Can you imagine how preposterous that would be? Why, you'd have guys intentionally running backwards to fall down behind the 30 yard line. Instead of well designed drives toward the goal line you'd have persistent wild flails into the end zone from behind that ridiculously arbitrary line, the 30.
Excuse me, have I described college basketball, that previously impressive sport that now features three guys checking to make sure their toes are behind the asinine 3-point line? I defy anyone to watch tapes of pre-1986 and assert the game is better now. I have tapes like that and the current style is a farce. There is no movement without the ball and no hitting the boards.
In the NBA the 3 point shot is far enough out that the teams do not abuse it. College basketball cheapened itself to absurd degree with that 18 foot crap.
But it did lead to one simple prediction. As soon as the colleges adopted that rule in '86-'87 I predicted the USA would plunge in international ball. Talk about inevitable. As soon as we surrendered our stylistic edge the advantage was gone, and we lost the '88 Olympics. Big coincidence.
