West Virginia Coach headed to Alabama?? |
|
Rich Rodriquez met with Bama's AD yesterday (6 December.) Rich said they "just talked abit." Wow. Going from the Big East to the SEC; that would be an incredible step up. The culmination of any coach's career, to work in the SEC.

find solace and satisfaction coaching teams outside the SEC. I would imagine someone might also think its a good gig to coach Notre Dame (I have yet to figure that one out.) The men you listed are outstanding professionals who represent their schools well and are fantastic football coaches. Not everyone gets the opportunity to share their coaching skills in the best football conference and that's something many have to live with.
I just like to stir the pot a bit. Much needed to warm us up in the wintertime. I suspect that some might not share my view. Imagine.

We could Fry a turkey and drink beer till the Hogs come home. Then we could meander down to Roger's Rec Hall on Dickson Street in Fayetteville and celebrate another Hog Victory. I'd having you calling the Hogs and baying at the Moon before the sun rose Sunday Morning.

is one of the most beautiful cities in the world located at the foothills of the Ozark Mountains. Gorgeous. Location about 40 miles south of the Arkansas-Missouri State Line. You'll love it. Then you can spend a weekend in Eureka Springs, The Switzerland of the Ozarks. You'll probably never want to leave. And you'll look good in a Hog Hat.

Fayetteville, Arkansas my friend. It has grown mightily. Its still great but I lived their in the 60's and 70's and it was paradise. Great party town and the nature around is just spectacular.

and said it was beautiful, but that they saw some sign that said they couldn't buy beer or wine for 40 miles or something (so they bought it at some gas station to take to their hotel).
I was actually rooting for those Razorbacks on Saturday; too bad about that muffed punt. Florida could just as easily have lost that game as won it. I feel terrible for the kid who dropped it.

driving through a dry county. I think Benton County is still dry, its the first state you come through entering the state from Missouri at the far western end of the state. Yeah, I felt sorry for Fish, NOT! I wanted to kick his butt. I was screaming at the TV - get the hell out of there, leave the ball alone.

17. But they say that it's really hard to train players not to go for the ball |
|
You see it in the end zone all the time - other team is going for a Hail Mary, and the defense, instead of just knocking it down, tries to intercept - making it, in effect, a volleyball that the offense could catch. I've heard lots of coaches say how hard it is to train them out of that, particularly since it's usually that aggressiveness that made them good enough for college to begin with. Florida should take it as a gift, though.

coached for the Bare, played for The Bare, met the Bare, attended The Bare's funeral, picked lice from The Bare's fur or took flowers to The Bare's grave site.
But maybe they'll make Rich-Rod wear that silly hounds tooth hat.

Had any connection to the "Bare." One of them didn't get to coach a game though.
When there were rumors of a Spurrier hire, it was suggested that he wear a houndstooth visor. I thought that was pretty funny.

20. as a WVU alum, I'm glad that he stayed |
|
but I really hope that it exposes the hypocracy among these coaches
someone waves a bunch of money in their face and they start playing games with their school, players and fans
I can't imagine that $1.1 million isn't enough for someone
that's much more than the vast majority of people in West Virginia or Alabama will ever see

Even before Mike Shula was fired, I posted in the Alabama forum that Rich Rodriguez was on my short list. Like I get a vote, lol.
He is a very good, potentially great coach. And he's loyal to his alma mater too!
I hope we can get a good coach. And then replace Mal Moore with Ozzie "The Wizard Of Oz" Newsome!

no he's not
if he was, he would have said from the outset that he wouldn't be leaving Morgantown for any amount of money
the only thing that kept him in M-town were some rich alums ponying up several thousands of dollars

|
And if he came and was successful at Alabama, he'd probably get a raise to 3 or 4 million a year pretty soon. So it seems to me that in this age of mercenary coaches, he put loyalty first. Of course you know Rodriguez better than I do, so I'll defer to your judgement.

Bear Bryant loved the University Of Alabama probably more than anything except his wife and family, but even he, in the early seventies, accepted "in principle" the head coaching job with the Miami Dolphins. But he eventually backed out of the deal because of his loyalty to his school.
The University Of Alabama, as part of a recent upgrade and expansion of the stadium, erected statues of the four coaches that have won national championships here. If I were a football coach, I think the opportunity to one day be immortalized alongside Wallace Wade, Frank Thomas, Gene Stallings and Paul Bryant would be quite tempting. Rich Rodriguez turned that down, plus more money, potentially much more money over the long haul, because he loves West Virginia. And I respect the man for that. Even though I was personally disappointed by his decision.
