Super Bowl XXXXI's half-time show (piece of crap)
They apparently will have Prince. I thought he retired.

1. Prince about 20 years ago will be okay
but now........no way. But they have to be careful, because at any time Janet Jackson might rush out and show her tits again.

2. Will they crack down on Prince if he shows his pierced nipples?

3. Oh geez...
Everything changed and started really sucking all because of one nipple being shown for about a quarter of a second. I watched it and didn't even notice that it happened.

No more of this variety and excitement and crowd-pumping stuff. Now we have PRINCE.

Crap.

5. We watched it and didn't notice it either! (Janet Jackson).
My boyfriend's comment, later, was that there was such an outcry because Cialis, who seemed to have about 90% of the ads for that Super Bowl, didn't want the competition.

4. The halftime show always sucks, but Prince is quite an improvement on recent years.
When was the last time they had someone better than Prince? He may be goofy, but he's also an incredible musician and band leader.

Nevermind that the whole Super Bowl enterprise is boring as can be, anymore. It's just the same Disneyish spectacle year after year. If it weren't for tradition and the excuse to throw parties, the television ratings would be heading downward, which is where they ought to be. The NFL needs a few years of downward trending so it can make some changes from its current lowest common denominator path.

11. Note to self - read slower.
I read this line -

If it weren't for tradition and the excuse to throw parties,

as

If it weren't for tradition and the excuse to throw panties,

Not that I have anything against throwing parties or panties.

6. Lets have an FCC approved "Christian" halftime show
We sure don't want to show no nekkid nipples but to keep the "christians" happy the halftime show could include the beheading of a half dozen muslims randomly dragged off the streets. Then when the carcasses are dragged off center stage with blood and body parts defiling the field, their could be a huge bonfire as "christian" children toss copies of the constitution into the flames. What better way to warm the homes of "christians" everywhere. And no doubt the FCC will "fine" absolutely nothing wrong with the wonderful American entertainment.

Prince will do just fine as did the old farts last year - Mick and the Boys.

10. Well, Prince is a Jehovah's Witness...
...so I guess they figure he'll come out an pump some outrageous jam for 10 minutes or so, play 'Purple Rain,' and be done without dropping an F-bomb or wearing those butt-less pants he wore in the 'Gett Off' video. :)

What I don't get is this - Prince has fallen well below the pop culture radar for a few years now. Who in the SuperBowl office thought he's the least bit relevant to the music world as it exists today?

I realize that the same argument can be made for McCartney or the Stones - but Macca is an Icon, and the Stones are at least still touring.

Having said all that, I'm betting Prince will take the stage with a kickass band and lay down some absolutely furious music. He can do that in his sleep at this point.

7. It's Super Bowl XLI.
Not for nothing. And the halftime show always sucks, so there is no surprise here.

12. This is news?
More often than not, there are three things about the Super Bowl that really stink:

1. The halftime show
2. The TV commercials
3. The game
