6. what did you think about that strategy? |
|
got the fight locked up, so make it a brawl with a guy that knocked me down in the 1st.

3. When basketball players "fight" |
|
it is oh so evident that they should stick to playing ball. They deserve an extra fine for not knowing how to fight.

I also think the NBA should institute a 'third-man-in' rule like in hockey.
A big reason that the stupid brawl escalated was that Nate Robinson got involved after the foul.
I'd endorse a rule like that. I'm a Knick fan (pity me! :)), and I've had no problem with the series of rules that have been instituted at the expense of my team - the 'players off the bench' rule that was enforced in the playoffs vs. Miami, the hand-check rules that were instituted largely from the defensive play of Derek Harper, etc.
Anyway, you're right. Basketball brawls are pretty embarrassing.

7. For sure. And a brawl does not help matters. |

Although from reading reports in the NY papers, the crowd cheered the team as they left the floor, even though they got hammered by 23 points.
The Garden crowd wants to like this team. The team's got to give them a reason to do so - and as wrong as it may be, the brawl may swing some fans over.
I'd rather just see them put 4 or 5 wins together myself.

when the Knicks are good. I think that things are going to fall into place sometime soon. I really hope so.
I remember the "good old days," with Clyde and Earl the Pearl. In those days, there were times when Ali showed up to watch them practice; he had a surprisingly good outside shot. (I always thought if anyone in the NBA could have been a serious boxer, it would have been Willis Reed.)

I wish I could have been there. It was held at the Miccosukee in Miami --about 2 hours from where I live. But I had to work early Sunday morning and couldn't make it.
I thought Litzau was done in the 1st. If there had been a few more seconds, he would have been done. Instead of boxing well, he wanted to come out and put on an impressive show. Unfortunately for him, it resulted in getting KO'd when he was easily ahead on the cards.
Miranda sure does have punching power. I haven't seen a punching prospect like him since Ricardo Mayorga. And Miranda has more skill than Mayorga. The ending of the fight was odd. Gibbs appeared to getting prepared to get up before the 10 count, but either was more hurt than I thought or misheard the referee.
Lets hope Miranda can get a rematch with Arthur Abraham and that us in America can see it on television.

is an entertaining fighter, though I thought the HBO crew was too obvious in their favoring him. I tire of the "he has an advantage because he had a terrible childhood" bit. If that were true, Liston would have owned Ali, Tyson would still be undefeated, and Don Jordon would be remembered as the greatest welterweight ever.
Gibbs was not fully conscious when he was counted out. It reminded me of Jerry Quarry being counted out in his fight with George Chuvalo. I would like to see Miranda fight Joe Calzaghe; he is big enough to move up the one weight class easily. I think that would be an outstanding fight.
