Eagles/Vikings Game Thread |
|
Hopefully this one will be as successful as the Jets/Steelers and MORE succesful than the Falcons/Rams (Which really only got a decent post count thanks to me and MrSlayer... hope to see him again today)
I predicted the Eagles, but I'm rooting for the Vikings, meaning either the Eagles will win and I'll be correct.. or the Vikings will win and I'll be pleasently surprised. Either way.. I can't lose... YES!!! :)

Tice was a Seahawk TE after all.
I just think they left it all on the field last Sunday. I hope I'm wrong but...

5. They have good field position... |
|
But that won't matter if they don't do anything with it... and that first pass definitely doesn't help at all.
First time out used by the Vikings.

That was a nice piece of running, no doubt. That long pass a couple plays before was pretty nifty too. The catch was fabulous.

It's just I'm migrating from my computer room to the TV room -- very far corners of the house.
Here's hoping Daunte can pull another TD out of his ***. Blowouts are soooo boring.

Only Challenge I remember was the challenge on whether or not the Eagles player fumbled the football into the endzone.. (which he did) which resulted in a Touchback for the Vikings... That's the only one I can think of..
At this moment it's 24-7.. due to an Eagle's field goal.. and the Vikings inability to do anything with getting the ball back after the Touch Back... The Vikings are actually getting the ball quite a bit.. just not being able to do anything with it.

We destroyed their pathetic team just as I said we would. I'm still offended so many actually thought the Vikings could even make this a game, let alone win. They have no defense, no running game and weak special teams. It's a joke. Next week will be a real game.

27. Nothing like being gracious in victory, huh? |
|
Despite the Vikes' weaknesses, if Moss had executed on the fake field goal and Culpepper avoided one of his two picks, it would have been a nail-biter. Philly should have dispatched the Vikings much like Atlanta downed the Rams. They're ripe for another NFC Championship choke.

28. No, because it was ridiculous to think the Vikings had a chance. |
|
We should have put a 50 spot up on the board but the good part about leaving those points on the field means we have something to complain about despite a dominating victory. This game was never, ever in doubt.
I hardly think we choked in those Championship games. The first time was something no one ever expected against what was the greatest show on turf, we only lost by 4, that is not a choke. The Tampa game was chokey but McNabb also had a broken fibula he was playing on. Excuse? Yeah, but a fully healthy McNabb is way more dangerous than the McNabb who can't run. Last year we really should have to lost to Green Bay in the divisional round. Who makes a 4th and 26 play? That was insane. Everyone was hurt for the Carolina game, no Westy, no Emmons, Dawk playing hurt, no defensive line at all and we still could have won if the receivers would have caught the ball before McNabb got cheap shotted and taken out. I don't call that a choke either, I call it making it that far on heart alone. A very injured team played their guts out (Pinkston and Thrash excluded) and lost. But you can call it a choke if it makes you feel better. What was it when the 15-1 Vikings lost to Atlanta in the Championship Game?
I'm sorry if I'm not showing much grace here but I was very insulted by people picking a very flawed, 8-8, lucky to be there team over the number one NFC team. Fans of the Vikings I can see doing it, most fans are delusional about their teams' chances but the national media and so-called experts made me sick.
Good Luck next year, the Vikings have some work to do but can be formidable with a few good personnel moves.

30. Hey, I will be the first to admit the Vikings have choked many times. |
|
But that's not what is at issue. It's the Eagles' inability to put inferior teams away handily (Vikings this year, Packers last) and win the conference championship game - three years in a row.
The first, I'll give you. They made a better showing than expected against the Rams. The second and third, injuries? Newsflash: EVERY team has injuries. That's no excuse whatsoever. Good teams prepare for injuries - there's no better example than the Patriots. They're down to a WIDE RECEIVER playing in their secondary - and they still totally shut down the Colts. No excuses from the Pats, they just win the game. Their first Super Bowl win? Remember, Tom Brady replaced their starting QB that year. Again, no excuses.
People were willing to pick the Vikes last Sunday because they made an impressive showing in Green Bay and because Philly has a history of choking in the playoffs. And if not for a tiny few plays, the Vikings could have won that game. Kinda shows that the "so-called experts" weren't totally nuts.

31. How did they not put them away? |
|
The Vikes scored 7 points when it mattered. 7 friggin points until garbage time. They were dominated on both sides of the ball. The game was never close, never. Were it not for the bit of rust we had it would have been 49-14. What game were you watching?
The Eagles haven't choked, they just haven't been healthy late in the year. They are healthy now and they are going to the Bowl.

33. A "choke" is defined as the favored team losing. |
|
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Eagles were favored in their last two NFC championship games, were they not?
It's one thing to be an intense homer, it's another thing entirely to rewrite history.

34. No, you can lose without choking. |
|
There is a huge difference between losing a hard fought game and choking. If you show up flat and some team does a dickdance on you then yeah you've choked. If you play hard but lose it's not a choke but simply a loss. They were too shorthanded in the past two years to have choked, in fact it was a miracle they were even there considering what happened along the way. Big picture.

IF the Eagles lose to the Falcons, OR if they lose in the Super Bowl, will that qualify as a choke? Or will you find an excuse?

36. We really should beat the Falcons. |
|
So yeah if they come out flat and tentative, make stupid mistakes and play poorly it will be a choke. I believe this team is better than everyone in the NFC even without T.O. so there are no excuses. The Super Bowl I don't know. I think New England can beat us and certainly will be the favorite so I don't know if that can be a choke unless we just get smoked. Pittsburgh also would be the favorite but I think we beat them if we play them again. They just caught us at the right point in the schedule during the year and we played as poorly as they played well and they played very well that day. It's a lot closer than that game indicates. I might consider losing to them a choke, it depends.
At any rate, losing the Bowl wouldn't be a choke by your standards because they will be the underdog against either team.

32. He lost interest after Trotter killed him. |
|
Every time the ball went near him after that he short armed it or dropped it. He got beat down on the field and then he quit. The fans were also a huge factor in this game, Culpepper could not hear at all. Next week will be even crazier.
