Former MLBPA chief Miller takes swipe at Ahhhhhhnuld |
|
"If you tell me steroids help you hit major league pitching more often and farther, I see no evidence whatsoever. None...I think if you tell me that using steroids and bulking up like that will help the performance of a football linebacker, maybe. If you tell me it will help a professional wrestler, maybe. If you tell me it will help a beer hall bouncer, maybe. If you tell me it will help somebody become the governor of California, maybe." --Marvin Miller, former executive director of the MLBPA (Boston Globe)

2. I actually like Marvin Miller a lot, for the most part. |
|
And this backhanded swipe only helps.

6. Umm. He sees no evidence that it helps a player hit the ball farther? |
|
The rest of the quote is great, but, come on, the real world is still awaiting this guy.

9. I actually see his point. |
|
It is hard for me to imagine how steriods might help you make contact more frequently. I am still waiting for the same evidence as he and other experts are.

11. The frequency bit is obvious. That's not what I addressed, however. |
|
If he can't see that a ballplayer on steroiods could hit the ball harder, then he's either a fool or incredibly disingenuous.

...nice planet you're living on.
I'm not sure what I think of the entire quote--he talks about "maybe" helping football players. Come on, that's a definite yes.

My eyes must have skipped over the maybe. Yeah, the guy's definitely playing fast and loose, spinning the spin of his former position.

13. "Maybe" if I heard him say the quote, I could have a better grip... |
|
...it's hard to pick up on dripping sarcasm (if that's what he was striving for) from just reading a quote.
Still, no excuse for saying steroids won't help a baseball player.
