5. Liverpool isn't known for thugs
not as much as ManU or Chelsea, at least. (well, except for the Heysel disaster, which really had it's roots in the Liverpool/Roma cup final the previous year) ) I think Athens will be fine, it's the Italians you need to worry about more than anyone else these days. the World Cup was a special circumstance because, after all, it was Germany, and if there is one thing your good limey chav or thug hates more than the Pakistanis, it's the French. and the one thing worse than the French? it's the Germans. Remember, England has a serious longing for the good old days when they were bombing the shit out of Germany and sticking their fingers in the eyes of everyone on the continent, even the 'bloody French' had to come to London for salvation.

the bad old days of British Footie Hooligans are passed, and since there is no especially fierce rivalry with Milan (unlike, say Juventus, but then everone hates Juve) I wouldn't expect serious trouble (recall that despite the presence of British police with special arrest powers in Germany, only three people were charged with anything more serious than public drunkeness)

6. Man U aren't known for hooligans either
They are known as prawn sandwich eating fair weather fans. Clubs with reputations for Hooligans are Millwall, Leeds (oh how everyone is gloating over Leeds being relegated) and Cardiff just to name a few quick names.

7. well not anymore, certainly
but ManU have had their issues in the past (been to Turin lately?) getting rich makes all the difference. Heck, what happened to the Chelsea yobs?

I do love the financial deal for Leeds, the place goes into recievership, takes the ten point deduction, and KPMG sells the place back, at a song, to the guys who ran it into the ground in the first place! how do I get that kind of deal?

8. "what happened to the Chelsea yobs?"
Priced out mate. Have you seen the ticket prices at Stamford Bridge?

As for Leeds, well all I can say is that there are a lot of us Wednesdayites who are now very glad indeed that Ken Bates failed to take us over and brought Leeds instead. And given that Leeds supporters are not the most popular bunch in the world, there is a lot of gloating going on over their demise.

9. it was rhetorical :)
i got to admit, I feel a bit for the rest of League 1, not sure they are ready for the Leeds jackasses to come play. oh well.

and let's all have a moment for Southend, who managed to beat ManU in Carling Cup play, but is still going back down to L1.

and the very fact that an ManU-Chelsea game is described as having 'good natured ribbing' by each side's supporters tells you all that is needed to know.

10. League 1 will love it
That's another big meal ticket for them. Another big club with big support to entertain. Just steer clear of the Leeds v Millwall matches.

11. Well, when Katharine Hepburn performed on stage in Liverpool...
Ethel Barrymore warned her to "keep moving, they throw things there!"

Yes, my people are from Liverpool.
