After all the Hullaballoo...Hopkins beats Duke 12-11

(and I win some side bets with Dookies, finally that Hopkins degree pays off in a sports contest!)

Hop was basically a visiting team in their own town this week, no one was paying them any attention (Delaware was the cinderella, Cornell was the undefeated juggernaut and Duke, was, well, Duke. And the Jays were simply under the radar, despite being the yankees of college lax.

would have been much more interesting, at least for me. Nothing personal, but JHU winning is the same old, same old.

Consider the bullet we dodged by having Duke not win. ABC-Disney-ESPN had the rights to the broadcast. Had Duke won, you can be sure that Disney would have been on the air with this commercial:

"John Danowski: your team just won the NCAA lacrosse tournament. Now what are you going to do? (Danowski): We're going to Disneyworld!"

This would have been followed by the inevitable touchy-weepy movie about the team that conquered adversity to overcome the.... The story would have been milked the theme bone dry by ABC, the same network that gave us last fall's 9-11 Bush hagiography, "9-11, Path to Glory," or whatever that piece of treacle was called.
