35 Former NFL Player Getting Finanical Assistance for Dementia
It has been reported on Fox Sport news that 35 former NFL players are getting finanical assistance to help with paying for medical help for Alhezimer or Dementia. Even though the fact that 35 player are getting help is shocking it is even more shocking that 103 player qualify for the help, but not all the paper work has gone through. So far none of the player who have applied for the program have been turned down. After reading this story I think it was a good idea for Tiki Barber to leave the NFL early. I am just shocked that so many player have Alhezimer and/or Dementia problems. The link to the story is below.

1. It is not
really surprising, when you consider the sport. It's common for football players to have nagging physical injuries after they retire. It's often in their knees, or shoulders, or other joints. Football is a violent sport. (One of the people I worked with had been a good high school and college player. He had played at one of the best universities in the country, and would have played pro, but for a knee injury. 25 years later, he had problems with his knee that surgery could not fully repair.)

The brain is just another part of the body. It isn't built for taking punches in boxing, or the powerful impact that is part of football. About a month ago, I saw a news report on how often football players are knocked out cold, which is not a good thing for the grey matter.

2. I've been knocked out riding bulls a few times
that brain trauma is not a good thing, I switched sports because of it. Boxing too. I stopped boxing and riding bulls and became serious about wrestling because I didn't want to end up screwed up from taking shots to the head all the time. I have a friend who got so many concussions from football that he would get rapped in the head wrestling around with me or my friends or in a fight and he'd be messed up for days. He used to lose hours of time. He'd be sitting around and just not even remember what he did for the last six or seven hours. It was weird.

Also, it seems like if you get knocked unconscious once, it becomes easier. I had a steer in practice put me about halfway out, but when that bull knocked me cold I don't even remember it. I woke up sick feeling too. Like I wanted to puke all night. It only happened once, but I could tell it took a little out of me. It's a surreal experience.
