The MMA Education of Brock Lesnar
I am really excited to see what Brock has here. He has the tools to be an absolute force in MMA. I think I mentioned before an old wrestling friend of mine used to wrestle at the U of Minnesota with Lesnar, so I've been a fan of his since way back when he was in college. Great athlete, built like a tank too.

The MMA Education of Brock Lesnar

Using the antiquated body mass index provided by our good friends in Washington D.C., we can make absolutely certain of one fact: Brock Lesnar (Pictures) is a morbidly obese individual.

Fluctuating between 265-300 pounds, the former collegiate wrestling champion's body mass seems ridiculously disproportionate to his 6' 2" frame, more suited to perpetual rotation at a fast food drive-thru than any athletic endeavor.

That's the story on paper. In reality, Lesnar is a mammoth human being, layered in enough muscle to put Hasbro's sculpting department to shame.

Unlike most men of his dimensions, his physique is functional: as a high school senior, he amassed a 33-0 record on the mat; in 2000, he placed first in the NCAA Wrestling Championships; in four years of college, he lost five bouts and won 106.

1. Since Choi didn't pass his physical, he's being thrown the proverbial creampuff.
Min Soo Kim is a huge step down in competition from Hong Man Choi. Check out his record:
http://www.sherdog.com/fightfinder/fightfinder.asp?fighterID=12561
Both his wins come against opponents who have losing records.

Also, now that Gina Carrano and Antonio Silva are also off of the card, the talent on this card has gone way down. Honestly I'm surprised that Sakuraba passed the physical and Choi didn't. With all the punishment Sakuraba has taken over the years, if he keeps going like this, he's going to die or seriously injure himself in the ring. The Sakuraba/Gracie match up is an interesting fight, though, and Gracie's definitely not a KO threat, so he should be alright for this one.

You can watch three of the fights for free on EliteXC: http://www.elitexc.com/

Jake Shields vs. Ido Pariente
Tim Persey vs. Jonathan Wiezorek
Gesias "JZ" Calvancanti vs. Nam Phan

I'm watching it just to see Shields in action. He's UFC/Pride caliber easily.

Back to the OP....if Lesnar doesn't win this one, then he might want to rethink an MMA career. This should be an easy one for him as long as he doesn't take the fight too lightly.

2. yeah but he's a world class judoka
so unlike Choi, Min actually will want to go to the ground. Choi was a guy Lesnar could take down and rough up pretty much at will. He just had to avoid getting hit right off the bat. Min has a shot at pulling off a submission if Lesnar gets sloppy. So it poses different problems for Brock. But honestly, he should just plow through this guy.

You know, I don't think Sakuraba's punishment is a factor. MMA punishment is so different. Like he's been brutally beaten, but he's never taken sustained head shots for 30 minutes, round after round and fight after fight. I just don't think it's all that applicable, unless he develops a serious concussion problem, that is something that a person should retire from.

Shields is a great grappler. I'm interested in seeing him in action too.

3. Look at the difference in physique (weigh-in pictures)

LOL...physique usually accounts for absolutely nothing in MMA (look at Lindland), but damn.....huge difference there.

Also, it looks like pro elite isn't going to show live on-line undercards anymore.

4. no shit
If I saw a guy built like that coming at me, my god, I don't know what I'd do. Brock looks like it would take a nuclear weapon to stop him from doing whatever he wanted.

5. I guess when you get run over by a freight train, there is no hope
of putting a submission on it. :)

That was effing fast!

6. That was an anticlimatic ending to a very, very weird event.

Johnny Morton (the former NFL star) got KO'd very badly by a former stand-up comic. That event was so bad it was good. The Dong/Manhoef fight and a couple of other fights were very good.

I'm too tired right now, but I'm definitely going to talk more of this tomorrow.

7. I mean, it's almost comical
Lesnar is built like a freaking comic book superhero!
