1. He's a damn fine driver!
But I'm not so sure about your characterization. Fangio from Argentina was the most prolific F1 driver ever.

2. I don't think Fangio had the record out of the gate that Lewis has...
...Lewis hasn't finished anywhere other than on the podium fir his first 7 races. His sixth and seventh EVER grand Prix he won from pole.

Fangio didn't do that either.

btw...most of Fangio's records were eclipsed by M. Schumacher

3. Not to mention IIRC he had'nt ever driven on either circuit before getting those poles and wins
Perhaps a better characterization would have been something like "He is to F1 what Tiger was to the PGA 10 years ago."

I expect we will be seeing a lot more of him on the podium in the future

4. That's true but even Michael has said he doesn't consider himself in Fangio's league.
But it's all subjective...I just thought the original post was a bit of an exaggeration.
I wish Hamilton all the best.

5. I am with you
Hamilton is a comet, no question. only time will tell if he can join the pantheon. I rank the best of all time as:

1: Fangio
2: Schumacher
3: Senna (would be one, I think, had he lived)
4: Prost
5: Stewart

Can you imagine Senna's craziness in one of today's cars?
