Jets Offensive Coordinator Resigns
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&u=/ap/20050119/ap_on_sp_fo_ne/fbn_jets_hackett

<snip>

"New York Jets offensive coordinator Paul Hackett resigned Wednesday, ending a four-year stint marred by criticism for his conservative play-calling.
The Jets wasted little time selecting a replacement, hiring Titans offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger later in the day. Hackett's departure was expected after the Jets' 20-17 overtime loss to Pittsburgh in the second round of the playoffs Saturday."

<snip>

"The Jets showed little imagination in their version of the West Coast offense, ranking 17th in the NFL in scoring this season even though Curtis Martin led the league in rushing with 1,697 yards.

Chad Pennington threw for 2,673 yards and only 16 touchdowns, while the Jets ranked 22nd in passing yards and managed 51 points in the first quarter during the regular season.

Once Pennington returned from a strained right rotator cuff in December, Hackett went even more conservative. The tight ends were virtually invisible in the offense, and playmaker Santana Moss was hardly used after a breakout 1,000-yard season.

Perhaps most upsetting to team officials was the lack of offensive scoring in four games against Pittsburgh and New England, where they managed a total of two touchdowns."

2. Has Hackett done well anywhere?
IIRC, he made a mess at USC as well, and then saw Carroll come in and start kicking ass within a few years. Hackett and Edwards deserve as much blame as Brien for the missed FGs. They easily could have played for the win, or at least tried to gain some yardage, but instead played not to lose.

10. No- he has ridden his supposed ties to the 49'ers for years
He got their at the end was basically the towel boy but he somehow created this great buzz about how much he knew about the West Coast offense.

4. He's going to be cut.
The Jets have to give him a large roster bonus in March according to his contract. They will cut him before that, he can't stay on that team.
