Did Any Quarterback Have A Better Cannon Than Terry Bradshaw? |
|
I'm watching past Superbowls on ESPN and he made a pass to Lynn Swann in the end zone from his own 40 that looked like a punt...

1. plus he called his own plays. |
|
That fact alone puts him way ahead of the like of Montana, Marino, and certainly Manning.
I think Farve is very similar to Terry in style and physical skill. But he's not nearly the winner Bradshaw was.

12. Favre doesn't have the great defense that Bradshaw did |
|
That certainly helps in making a quarterback a winner.
I also miss the days when quarterbacks call their own plays. Johnny Unitas and his 2 minute drill or Bart Starr and his calls to throw a bomb on third and inches. Great.

2. I've seen over 100 NFL games live, and |
|
the strongest arm I ever saw belonged to Dieter Brock. He wasn't terribly good, but I watched that guy throw a sidearm line drive that wentabout 70 yards.

3. One word..........KOSAR! |
|
Actually Bradstein had a good arm but I would say the following (okay no busts in Canton for some of them) had better:
Vick-flip of the wrist. Deiter Brock-he could hit the uprights from the 50 yard line....apparently that is about all he could do. Favre-GUN! Elway- if he had time to set up he could really let it wail. Headcase Jeff George-legendary in scouting combines Leftwich-I have seen it in person amazing Doug Williams- major gun especially long throws. Marino-without pulling the ball back behind his shoulder.

5. Jeff George -- and I'm praising the man's talent and not -- |
|
-- addressing whatever "attitude" problems he may or may not have had. I don't have first-hand evidence of those problems, so I'm just saying his throwing arm bordered on the phenomenal.
In long ago times, Roman Gabriel could fire with authority and distance. Breath-taking to watch. I imagine that some of those long passes he threw are still airborne.

9. Randall Cunningham could throw it 80 + yards. |
|
I used to watch him in warmups at The Vet launching it 80 yards and more. The guy had a cannon for an arm.

10. Vick has a cannon too |
|
IMO he still has room for improvement, but he has some of the best natural gifts of any QB ever.

11. Boom Boom Bobby Douglas |
|
This Bears QB also pitched for the White Sox. Boom Boom had a cannon arm but was woefully inaccurate. He held the single season rushing record for a QB until Vick came along I believe.
