Morning After Thread
Now you've slept on it.

Who's gonna win?

Pats = holding best offense (Colts) to 3 points last week;

Pats = posting 41 points against best defense (Steelers) this week.

Dynasty.

But that's just my opinion. I'm sure some deluded Iggles folks think otherwise, seeing as how Philly so thoroughly dominated the powerhouse NFC this year.

*snicker*

:P

It's on, baby.

1. What a thing of beauty we are witnessing in New England
It'll never be this good again. Win or lose this is the best football team I have ever seen.

Tom Brady 8-0 in playoff games. Only Bart Starr is better.

Bill Belicheck 9-1 in playoff games. He and Vince Lombardi are now tied.

Different eras sure. But anyone who talks about the league being watered down and forced "mediocrity" seems to miss the simple point that Belicheck is able to get it done in an era where he can't rely on superstar players but instead has to come up with the coaching scheme and game plan to get it done.

It should be an exciting superbowl!

3. Enjoy it while you can
I think the Pats have a good chance of repeating next year as well, so maybe you're not at the pinacle yet.

It won't last forever though. This is the time you need to really love being a fan of the Patriots. Suck it all in cause who knows what you'll be witnessing in 5-10 years.

I also don't agree with the different eras line of thinking. Oh sure things are different now, but building a dynasty now isn't so much more difficult as it is different. Belicheck and the Patriots had to build a team with the salary cap and free agency. The Steelers in the 70's had to build their team through the draft. By the end of their super bowl run 100% of their players had been drafted and raised in their system. They didn't plug a hole with a free agent here or there. I think that way of building the right team is much harder than under a Salary Cap/Free Agent system.

good luck to your team, don't get overconfident, and enjoy.

5. Yeah....eeek
I remember those years. I never really got why the Pats sucked so much. They were always cellar dwellers. How many years in a row did Miami win that division? Miami, Buffalo...eesh

I remmeber the Pats first superbowl run though. THey were the first wild card team to make the big game weren't they? I picked them in every game and made tons of money. Nobody thought they'd make it. I kept picking them.

Then in the Super Bowl people asked me if I was picking them over the Bears. I asked them if they were insane.

Ah well.

I remember blackouts. Do those happen anywhere anymore?

Anyway. Seriously. Enjoy it. 10-15 years from now you'll be as historically minded as us Steeler fans as you're getting whipped by the new 'big' team. Till then though enjoy the ride.

9. Da Bears
46-10, baby.

For the record, no one team has gotten more mileage out of one win than that Bears team here in Chicago.

2. Delusions from an Iggles Fan
One could say the weather beat both the Colts and the Falcons in the playoffs.

One could say the Patriots should have been playing the Jets last night since they beat the blessed Steelers the week before. The AFC's "best" looked pretty ragged two weeks in a row at home.

One could say there might not be much talk of a Patriot dynasty if the Iggles had been in the last three Super Bowls.

Although I am an Eagle fan and think they match up very well on both sides of the ball, I believe they have the ultimate advantage; the white sports reporter.

6. 39-36 Pats
But they're not the best team I've ever seen. I think the 1990's Cowboys could take them. Or the 80's 49ers.

7. So, would you Pats fans, still be Pats fans if the'd moved to Connecticut?
How long ago was that when the most corrupt Governor in the history of the state of Connecticut tried to woo the Pats to Hartford, and everyone thought he had succeeded, only to get rolled at the last minute?

10. Not long ago
I remember seeing a billboard in Hartford welcoming the Pats and mocking Massachusetts...a few days before they realized the site chosen for the Pats stadium in Hartford was so polluted that it was a poster child for the Superfund project. The billboard was gone a few days later.

But I would have stayed with them anyway.

11. It must have been before Rowland was elected to his third term...which
he didn't finish anyway.

I sort of recall the Pats backing out differently--mainly screwing CT over, playing them for patsies.

14. If the patriots destroy the eagles, they truly are the best team ever.
But they won't, it will be close, and the Eagles will prevail. It's fucking destiny baby.

E-A-G-L-E-S

15. I am delusional as well.
I remember when the patriots were a 14 point underdog to the rams.

As the patriots are the greatest team ever, would an eagles victory make them the greatest team ever?

I think the patriots could win, but they will have to bring their "A" game. Anyone who thinks the Eagles are a pushover are delusional themselves.

I don't believe the hype. Check this out
(snip)

Robert Walker, sports book director at MGM Mirage casinos, made the Patriots a 6-point favorite.

"The AFC will be favored because the AFC is perceived to be better," Walker said.

Last year, the Patriots were 7-point favorites against the Carolina Panthers and won 32-29. In 2002, the Patriots were 14-point underdogs to St. Louis, but upset the Rams 20-17

(snip)

Notice the word "perceived"? Vegas is setting their line to attract Philly money because people "perceive" that the AFC is better. I would take those points. The Eagles have a track record of winning upsets when they are getting big points.

16. Here's another:
Steelers beat the Eagles 27-3.
Patriots beat the Steelers 41-27.
Need any more?

18. Thats just silly
Didn't the steelers beat the patriots the first time they played?

Eagles beat the Falcons by 17, the patriots only beat the steelers by 14.

By your logic, no team that loses can ever win, and no team that wins can ever lose.
