It seems like just about everybody is picking the Patriots, from analysts to fans to regular people.
Why is the betting line only 7 points? Vegas tries to balance the bets on one team with the bets on the other team. The money "in" balances the money "out" and the house keeps the commission. In this case, the betting is balanced at 7 points. The line isn't established until after Vegas collects early bets from insiders. The line the serves to entice the public to counteract the insiders. It seems a lot of early money was bet on the Eagles, because patriot betters don't have to give a lot of points to get involved.
Who is dumping all this money on the Eagles? My guess is that some NFL insiders have bet the farm on the birds and Vegas is keeping the line low to keep that patriot money flowing in. I don't think the insiders see a super blow out.

1. Watch the trends in the betting line. |

If the margin grows, then it means too many people are picking the Patriots, and they'll have to change the line. If the margin shrinks, then it shows that a lot of people might not be as smart as they think they are.

2. From 6.5 to 7. It won't move further. |

I have seen lines move half of a point. I have never seen a line move one whole point. The Superbowl opened at 6.5 and moved right up to 7. I would bet that it doesn't move again.
