18. I'm with you, and that score sounds just about right,.
Although the iggles might pull off a TD, so I say 24-10.

I hate the Pats as well!
At least my Dolphins beat em once this year!

2. Fantasy vs Reality...
As a PA resident on the losing side of last week's Steelers-Pats game, I must cheer for the Eagles as "the other PA team".

Reality, those Pats are a hell of a team and spanked the Steelers pretty hard...not an easy task. I'll hope for the Eagles but expect the Pats to win pretty handily.

4. I can't wait for this upset.
Only 10 more days!

Can a Patriot backer give me a more detailed explanation of why they will win than the sloganistic crap I have been hearing?

Didn't they barely beat the Panthers last year? Come to think of it, both Superbowls have been won in the last seconds. Why is this year going to be a blow-out? Do you really not realize how good the Eagles are?

5. I'm basing it on the playoffs
They held the top offense in the league to 3 points.

They scored 41 on the top defense in the league.

They can get it done on both sides of the ball.

Hey, I hope it is a close game. I don't want to see a blow-out. The Eagles are good, but I don't think they're in the same league as the Patriots.

We'll see what happens in a few days, but I'm sticing by my prediciton: 31-13, Pats

8. Why not base it on the Superbowl?
The Pats have one two superbowls by a total of 6 points. If past history is your guide than a prediction of 24-21 would be in order. But the Pats were heavy underdogs in the first game and were considered lucky to win, and the Pats were heavy favorites in the second game and were considered lucky to hang on. The Pats have been effective in the superbowl, but not overwhelming.

My prediction?

Eagles are a great team and they will not wilt. If anybody is at risk of having the wheels come off its the Patriots. While the Eagles were celebrating on Sunday the Patriots were acting like somebody died. If things start going wrong with that attitude it can snowball in a hurry.

I expect the Eagles to break out a lot of trick plays on offense. Their defense is capable but I think the Patriots will have opportunities to score. In the end I see the Eagles escaping with a win:

Final score

Eagles 27 - Patriots 23

With all due respect, I think you need to adjust your frame of reference. I think most Eagles fans would agree that it's more accurate to judge these teams based on what they've done this season, not what they did last season or three seasons ago.

Would it be fair to examine Philly's Super Bowl record over the last three seasons, then?

Look, both teams rolled through the playoffs, but the Pats beat Indy and Pittsburgh. The Eagles beat the Viqueens and the Falcons.

I think Philly is a damn good team, but the Patriots are better. It's fine if you disagree, but I think your argument is flawed.

EDIT: I wasn't trying to start a fight or trash the Eagles when I started this thread. I just thought it'd be fun for everyone to throw their two cents in, then we could revisit after the game and see who came closest.

11. I think you should expect good hearted strife
Hey, I don't take this too seriously, but in the context of the seriousness of pro-football I think you should expect some serious razzing. So please don't take me too seriously when I get offended that someone thinks my team is far outclassed. I would never have a fist-fight over this, but I will gladly engage in a war of words.

That said, if you used the Eagles record in the last three NFC games you would have predicted a loss. If you went by the way the Patriots played the Steelers in the regular season you would have had them losing in the playoffs. Each game is its own game, and match-ups and momentum and desire have far more to do with the outcome of the game then past history.

I respect what the Patriots have accomplished, and I think the Eagles deserve respect too. Each year they have come out and played hard, and despite three straight chokes they managed to finally get over the hill. It is easy to predict another choke. But when the game is over I think we will be talking about an Eagles team that has learned how not to choke, a team that has walked throught the fire and is now on the other side.

Eagles fans feel like this match-up is long overdue. The patriots have what the eagles deserve, and on Feb 6 the birds are going to pull out all the stops. If the patriots can still win they deserve to be called dynasty.

12. Playoff performance is no indication of superbowl success.
Consider: The pats barely got into the superbowl 3 years ago. The conventional wisdom was they would get blown out. The won in the last second. The pats rolled into the playoffs last year; they held off the panthers in the last minute. In the superbowl the patriots have twice performed opposite to expectations. Why should this superbowl be different?

I think the Eagles might have busted their nut just getting past the NFC title game. Possible letdown? Maybe not, but the Patriots are a HELL of a lot better than the Falcons and Rams put togther.

Pats 29
Eagles 14

13. Final score predicted with mathematical certainty
Edited on Thu Jan-27-05 07:05 PM by KamaAina
Fact: The Eagles have scored 27 in each of their two playoff wins this year.

Fact: The Pats' two SB wins have come via last-second Vinatieri FGs.

Thus, the final score must be: New England 30, Philadelphia 27.

Writer's embellishment: McNabb hits T.O. deep for his only catch of the game to set up a tying Akers FG -- but they leave 40 seconds on the clock: short kick, Brady throws left to Branch, right to Givins, left to Branch, Vinatieri comes on to end it.

edit: won't work w/o short kick!

16. Hmmmm
I always root AFC.. so I'm predicting a Patriots Win.. But I'm not going to predict a mud stomping.

The Eagles are a good team... it's just I believe the Pats are a better team..

So I'm going to say Pats 27 Eagles 20. Yes I think it's possible for the game to be won by just a touchdown. Maybe it's just my want for a good superbowl than anything. I hate to see a blow out.. on either side.

20. When the eagles win it won't matter
Every Pats fan has it in their heads that New England is the second coming of Christ. It will be a fluke, bad officiating, the Pats weren't at the top of their game. The Eagles are the better team in the weaker conference. They get no respect because the rest of the conference was pitiful. I guarantee the Eagles will win. If not, I'll walk down Broad Street selling Philly Sucks shirts.
