FAYETTEVILLE - Arkansas officials have filed an appeal with the NCAA, claiming that the sanctions imposed against the men's track and field team in October are too harsh for the violations committed.
Arkansas filed a 39-page appeal earlier this month with the NCAA. The school is expected to get a response from the NCAA Division I Committee on Infractions sometime during the first week of February.
The appeal is part of Arkansas' attempt to reclaim the two national championships that were stripped by the NCAA as punishment for rules violations committed by former Razorbacks assistant coach Lance Brauman.
"That's our primary issue, that the penalty is excessive and harsh," Arkansas associate general counsel Scott Varady said."
I'm still not clear on exactly what happened, but it did seem to result in the coach going to FEDERAL PRISON...
"Brauman resigned as Arkansas' sprints coach in July after he was convicted on five felony charges stemming from his tenure as the head track and field coach at Barton County (Kan.) Community College from 1997-2002. He was released from a Texarkana, Texas federal prison in late August."

I was sure that this issue MUST have been discussed before given that some here are such prominent posters when it comes to the subject of cheating in sports, but apparently it wasn't really an issue when a thread was started in October about it as it sank like a stone (ZERO responses).
