New Jersey Nets - Dallas Mavericks To Make Blockbuster Trade Today (Jason Kidd)
Sources told ESPN.com that the Mavericks and Nets on Wednesday reached an agreement in principle on a Kidd deal after talks had seemingly stalled last week. If completed, the trade would be the NBA's third blockbuster deal of the month.

Although sources say the teams are still sorting out final details, this deal was described as "imminent" by multiple sources close to the process after negotiations moved to an advanced stage Tuesday night. The deal -- salvaged from talks on a three-way trade with Portland that developed and fizzled quickly two weeks ago -- has Dallas sending 24-year-old point guard Devin Harris, veteran swingman Jerry Stackhouse, the expiring contracts of center DeSagana Diop and swingman Devean George and guard Maurice Ager to New Jersey for Kidd and forward Malik Allen.

Sources say Dallas will also send the Nets the league-maximum $3 million, the Mavs' first-round draft pick this June and a first-rounder in 2010.

1. The Nets are KILLING the Mavericks on this trade.
Seriously, Kidd is a good player, but damn, the Mavericks are giving up WAY too much for him.

2. not really
Harris is a solid young player, Diop is okay, Stackhouse will be bought out by the Nets and re-signed by the Mavs next month. The other guy is filler.

The two draft picks are unprotected, which is risky, but unless the team falls apart in 2010, it shouldn't hurt them much. Plus, they're getting Antoine Wright, who is one of the few players in the leage who can guard Kobe Bryant.

3. I still sniff desperation in Dallas.
But then, I can't stand the Mavs, so it's all good for me. :)

4. San Antonio fan, right?
don't worry, even with Kidd they're no challenge to you. Parker will eat Kidd for breakfast in the playoffs.

5. If Parker is healthy.
He's got an ankle injury (I think, it might be his foot). That's why the Spurs signed Damon Stoudamire.

The Spurs have already won 4 more championships than I ever thought I'd see, and they won last year, and they never repeat. My expectations are low is what I'm sayin'.

6. if they get out of the west, they'll win it all
nobody in the east can compete. The gap between the east and west is greater than ever, and that's WITH Garnett in Boston.

9. Desperation
This trade really makes Dallas look desperate. To give up that many players, especially at least one pretty good player, makes a team or and owner look desperate. To some degree it makes me question Mark Cuban as an owner. To give up that many players just for Jason Kidd

7. I wonder if any other teams are going to prematurely make anymore desparate trades
I wonder if the Shaq or Kidd trades ever happen if Gasol had not been traded to the Lakers for nothing.

8. Probably Not
At leas the team involved in the trades probably would not have been willing to give up so much to get the players.
