Salisbury loses stake at ESPN
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/columnist/mccarthy/2008-02-26-carter-espn_N.htm

ESPN said late Tuesday it was parting ways with longtime football analyst Sean Salisbury. The surprise announcement came only hours after the network announced its hiring of Cris Carter from HBO's Inside the NFL.

Nothing to do with sending photos of his "manliness" over his cell phone, I'm sure.

To female employees of ESPN. Himself as in flacid. Or at least I assume. You get the idea, and I don't want to go further. It was maybe a year and a half ago and ESPN kept it quiet until the story was whispered and the identity finally emerged as Salisbury.

It sounded like the Sean Salisbury I knew briefly at USC. He was a couple of years behind me. I did the articles for the student newspaper when he was recruited and when he signed, so I talked to him several times then met him on campus the following year. Decent guy but obsessed with juvenile jokes. I remember his favorite was abusing "Dick Goesinya," as if he invented it.

How can ESPN retain Emmitt Smith and jettison Sean Salisbury? I realize their roles are different but it's almost like ESPN doesn't want to concede what an incompetent decision it was to hire Emmitt, by keeping him around.

Salisbury takes plenty of grief on sports sites but I thought he was decent. Certainly plenty of energy and opinions. And that's necessary for the situation they put him in, the Fact or Fiction type of thing where you can't waffle and need to be blunt and concise.

Here's the irony: Salisbury had opportunity to join the Arizona Cardinals a few years ago as QB coach under Denny Green, but he opted to stay at ESPN, for the supposed career stability.

On edit: I just read the link from the OP and Salisbury made it sound like his decision. My impression was otherwise.

6. I had a High School Buddy who went to USC
in the early 70's and my wife and i were fortunate to go to two USC games, and what great games they were. USC-Notre Dame in 74 where USC kicked ass in the second half and the 75 USC-Ohio State Rose Bowl, Pat Hayden to Shelton Diggs, two point conversion, a win 18-17. Still got the newspaper articles and the ticket stubs. The tickets were 12 bucks each and "free parking."

11. I hated USC in those years
Growing up in Miami I was a Canes fan (Friday night home games) and I adopted Oklahoma and their brilliantly fast wishbone on Saturdays. Since USC was always competing for high national ranking with Oklahoma, I despised USC more than any school in the country, besides Florida.

My friends were literally shocked when I decided to attend USC.

4. I've seen the Pamela video, the Paris video.....generally
if a nude pic/video of someone famous is circulating, whether it be female or male, hey I'm curious to look.

Yet I have absolutely no desire to do a google search for Sean Salisbury's junk.

And I'm gay.

That's telling.
