Upset About CBS NCAA Schedule |
|
I am upset about the fact that CBS choose to air the Duke-Belmont game over the K-State-USC game. I understand that there actually are people who want to watch the Duke-Belmont game, but who really wants to watch the Duke-Belmont game. In that game there is a 2(Duke) playing a 15 (Belmont). I understand there is a chance Duke will lose the game, but Duke really should not lose the game. In the K-State-USC game not only do you have a 6 (K-State)going against an 11(USC), but you also have two of the most hyped freshman players of this year playing against each other for most likely the last time in college. At least one if not both are going to go to the NBA next year. It seems to me that game should have been aired over the Duke game with updates of the Duke game given during the K-State game. So, what do others think?

1. It's always bad. It was much better when ABC had it. |
|
Becuase then they had games on ESPN and ESPN2 (though I can't actually remember if ESPN2 existed when they did it). Even so, you get the idea.

7. To my knowledge ABC has never |
|
had the rights to the men's tournament. CBS has had the broadcast rights since '82 (NBC had the contract from '69-'81), and have broadcast every tournament game since 1991. ESPN aired select first and second round games prior to 1991 (Before Disney bought ESPN/ABC).

10. OK, that must be what I was thinking of |
|
I definitely remember watching games on ESPN, but it was a while ago.

I think it depends on where you live.
By the way, you can watch any game online at www.ncaasports.com.

4. CBS's coverage always sucks |
|
Right now, with Belmont in the lead, I'm okay with the coverage. Sign up at CBSsports and stream the games. That's how I saw my Jayhawks play this afternnon.

I got drenched at Doral in the final half hour, then got back expecting to see USC/Kansas St, with 3 potential lottery picks and by consensus the most anticipated first round matchup. But damn CBS sticks the Miami area with Duke. I despise Duke. Is this supposed to be ACC territory? What a farce.
By result they got it right but it was an inane decision, for the reasons erpowers detailed.
BTW, USC/Kansas St was another example of the Sporting News preseason annual system that I've detailed for years in football and basketball postseason. Horrible draw for USC as a #6 seed. Kansas St was #17 in TSN preseason annual, meaning they were a higher rated underdog tonight. USC was not in TSN preseason Top 25 and indeed was slotted far down in the Pac 10. Merely another case of the disguised superior team, merely winning as it should. USC opened a 3 point favorite but that dropped to 2. That's unusually low for a 6/11 matchup, since oddsmakers and bettors were aware there wasn't real 6/11 disparity. I posted on a USC website on Sunday night that it was a poor draw, completely unlike last year when USC got upstart Texas in the second round, a team that hadn't been rated high by TSN in preseason. USC won that game before being ousted by North Carolina in the Sweet 16.
Obviously I rooted for Belmont but the end was a just result, after Belmont played scared by remaining behind the arch when they had a 1 point lead and the ball, then Henderson took it smack to the bucket for the winning FG.

9. I had to watch the Duke/Belmont match up too |
|
My ISP went goofy last night and I ended up not being able to stream the USC/KSU match up. I got to watch the opening minutes of the game and then the ISP crapped out. By the time it came back up I had missed most of the game and I decided to give it up. :grr:
I was really pulling for Belmont. fwiw, I'm a Jayhawk first and a Big XII fan second. I really wanted to see the KSU game for no other reason than conference pride. My husband and I recently moved to Maryland and I feel like I'm smack dab in the middle of ACC hell. The only thing that has kept me somewhat sane is that I have had access to espn360.com. It's been about the only way I could reliably watch the Big XII conference games on a regular basis. I tried signing up for the espnppv Big XII coverage but it isn't available in my area. :banghead:

think about what might have been, if only Coach (R) and his overrated 67% grad rate crew had managed to actually choke... :(
edit: think how ugly it would be if ABC/ESPN -- and "Duke" Vitale -- had it... :scared:
